@kmmord --I’m sorry you had a bad experience. That’s never okay. I think there are bad apples in every park (as mentioned above, the Dodger parking lot is plainly a dangerous place for opposing fans), but this blog tells a nice tale of a Cub fan visit to Citi, and the city: http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2015/10/19/9567813/thanks-mets-fans-cubs-nlcs
I, too, would be rooting for the Cubs if the Mets weren’t in it.
@garland, it looks like we may be rooting for the Mets before long. Our Jays seem to be self-destructing, given yesterday’s mess, but they’ve surprised us before, so who knows. Regardless of what happens later this afternoon, it’s been a lot of fun having our team in the post-season and watching them enjoy the experience.
I went to a Mets-Dodgers game at Chavez Ravine 20 something years ago. There were almost as many Mets fans in the stands as Dodger fans. One Dodger fan sitting near me complained about all the rowdy Mets fans around her I wasn’t threatened at all.
My H (Mets fan) and I went to a Mets-Dodger game last season…still lots of Mets fans. We do have a lot of transplanted New Yorkers here. (Actually, we have a lot of transplants from everywhere!)
If you think the Mets are dangerous now, wait until next year. Harvey, DeGrom, Syndergaard, Wheeler, and Matz? That’s a lethal line up and they have all of them for at least another 4 years.
Any other year we would be rooting for the Cubs to end their drought–but we are longtime Mets fans and are rooting for a repeat of 1986. Let’s Go Mets!!!
So happy to be going to the WS. The Mets have won every other time they’ve gone, so are they due since they lost the last time in 2000? One can only hope.
Well, our Jays are out of it after a tough battle with the Royals. For a team who lead the majors in every batting stat in the regular season, we just could not get those ROBs in to score in this series. It’s been a great season and all of Canada is excited about 2016. Go Mets!
^ I used to go to quite a few of the Jays games when I lived in Syracuse at it was quicker to get to than NYC. Would have been a more fun WS with them in it then the Royals. I think Syracuse was/is? the farm team for them after the Yankees left, back when I lived there in the mid 80’s.
Was a good game, but Toronto’s hitting (other than Bautista) let them down. In terms of the World Series, this is going to be interesting, I think KC is the tougher opponent, despite Toronto’s power. The Mets have the pitching, their starting staff is much better than KC’s, but KC’s bullpen is better (close wise, I would argue it is a draw, Famiglia has been lights out). One statistic that might be troubling to us Mets fans, KC has the highest batting average against pitchers who throw 94+ in the major leagues and is up there in other stats. The good news as shown be De Grom in his last start, is that they don’t need to use only the fastball, the pitchers have breaking balls and changeups and sliders that are effective, so if KC waits on the heat, they can nail them.
The other dangerous thing about KC is they play small ball well, they can hit the long ball, but they generate runs, something the Mets are not usually known for. I think it is going to come down to the Mets keeping up the aggressive play that Terry Collins doesn’t seem to like (several Mets beats writers said they thought that Granderson getting aggressive on the base paths, and some of the other players, was them, not Collins or Teufel), I think if they wait for the long ball they could lose to KC. I think KC overall has a better team in the field, the gap between their best players and least in the starting lineup is a lot less than it is on the Mets, the Mets have superior pitching, so it should be a tight series. KC has the advantage of having been to the series and taking it to 7 games as well.
Plus the Mets have a secret weapon in Colon, his kind of craftiness can change the course of things, if a starter has trouble, Colon looks pretty good these days:)
Sometimes I think you and I are rooting for different teams, musicprnt. You’ve spent the last couple weeks talking about what’s wrong with the Mets (wait for the long ball, reallly???) and looking for controversy.
Are you sure you’re not mixing them up with the other team in town?
