Miami University Pre-Med

I can tell you why I feel Miami is better for pre-med than a couple of those schools. My son applied to Case Western and was accepted with a $28,000/yr scholarship and it would still cost him roughly $80,000 to $100,000 more to attend there for four years than it would for Miami U when all things including his scholarship and the tuition promise are factored in. Maybe CWRU is a little better than Miami U for pre-med, maybe not. But I’m sure my son will be happy to have that $100,000 we saved when he’s is in med school. As far as UC, are you meaning the University of California? If you are, there are some great schools in the UC system but they are notoriously bad for pre-med as a result of being overcrowded and underfunded. If you attend one of the UC schools as s pre-med expect zero support or guidance from the university while you try to compete on a curve against thousands of other students for a small handful of A’s being awarded. A lot has been written about the staggering amount of bright kids that start UC as pre-med and are intentionally weeded out by the school as quickly as possible. Compared to the UC’s, Miami U has it’s act together in a big way when it comes to support for pre-meds. I am not sure if you can get into the premedical scholars program later on or not. I would call them and ask if I were you.
