Michael Bloomberg: Why I’m Giving $1.8 Billion for College Financial Aid

When colleges review applications, all but a few consider a student’s ability to pay. As a result, high-achieving applicants from low- and middle-income families are routinely denied seats that are saved for students whose families have deeper pockets. This hurts the son of a farmer in Nebraska as much as the daughter of a working mother in Detroit." …

you should have copied the part that states Bloomberg is donating the $1.8 billion to his alma mater- Johns Hopkins.
It wont benefit students applying to any other colleges, as your edited copy and paste from the article could have been seen to suggest.

I wish more donors would designate their donations for financial aid, rather than more buildings on campus. Donors will leave greater legacies with all the students they helped than with names on buildings.

Colleges can’t survive as outdoor camping facilities, students need buildings to live, eat, study, play, perform and research etc. I do agree that they shouldn’t compete to have fancy buildings and luxury dorms but decent facilities are a basic requirement.
