Not to be picky, but isn’t pre-eclampsia the forerunner to toxemia, which is really what they try to avoid? I know I was borderline pre-eclampic with D2 beginning at about 36 weeks; I was just told I needed bed rest to minimize my risk of getting toxemia. In fact, I ended up being almost two weeks late with her, and they had to induce.

pizzagirl - I have almost 30 first cousins on my mom’s side, and a big fat goose egg on my dad’s side. Mom was one of ten (four of them didn’t have any children) while dad was an only child!

Toxemia is not the terminology in use any more; it’s all preeclampsia. And severe preeclampsia is most certainly a reason to induce even at an early gestational age – the mother is at real risk for complications and the baby isn’t doing so hot either. (BTDT, wish I hadn’t!)

Actually, society is paying for them. This preemie baby will end up using at least $1M worth of medical expenses by the time she leaves the hospital.

In addition, I read that the Duggars don’t pay any income taxes, their were able to turn their house into a tax exempt church property.

Speaking again as a libertarian, I don’t like taxes, but if some of us have to pay them, everyone should have to pay them. Churches don’t deserve to be exempt.
