Michigan State ADS Competition - Class of 2024

On pins and needles in this house! Good luck everyone!

Are they supposed to call? or email?

Are they going to select the Recipients today (assuming it’s today) or are they going to filter the list and then send notifications today for interview later before picking the actual Recipients? I always thought it’s a two-fold process (Written test → Filter → Interview → Filter further to decide the recipients).

@KenJennings - I think they select finalist and then start filtering process

@RP1010 @KenJennings
I’m just guessing, but this might be the breakdown. Everyone should know where they stand by the end of the day.
1085 students will not advance and they hope you still attend
60 students will be awarded semi-finalist and given $1500 per year
this will not be an interview, but behind the scenes
The remaining approximately 50-55 will fall into the final 3 slots
either ADS, Freshman Distinguished or Finalist. This will be based on an interview.
All of this happens in the last 2 weeks of the month.

Not sure how these would be effected by someone dropping out, attending another school, deciding MSU isn’t for them etc.

Or I could have this whole thing wrong.

@gohawks1 - I like your guess :slight_smile: Let’s see if 1st guess or assumption comes true - That “everyone will know by end of the day”

It will be good if they do release info today else suspense goes on to next week. :frowning:

Just sent out by e-mail

Top 60 get Zoom interviews

Good luck to all the finalists

@crazycanuck
I assume that you got the email and you’re a finalist?
My son hasn’t gotten one, so I assume he’s out.
Good luck!

Has anyone gotten an email that they were not a finalist? We didn’t get anything. Just curious.

Same here. No call and no email?

Nothing here, yet, either.

Yes, my son got an interview
Received e-mail @ 4ish EST on Friday

Is that for the omsp or the ADS competition?

@momofmany-6 He had responded earlier regarding the ADS competition.

Did anyone get a “no” thank you email or letter from ADS?

@csammons My son has not. Just my opinion, but this is kind of a miss on their part. They did such a great job with organization during that weekend and getting kids excited about MSU. To not follow up or communicate after they said that they would make decisions by the second week in Feb is just not right or professional. So here we are heading into week 3 in February and a lot of people haven’t heard back positively or negatively.

I don’t remember them communicating a specific timeframe for letting us know? I do think all those being interviewed have been contacted. I read there were letters sent in previous years to those who did not move on to the final round. Why they choose snail mail when people are waiting anxiously, I’m not sure.

@lgiltmier I was just going by the booklet that they handed everyone when we walked in. Page 10
Second Week in February. All ADS participants are notified of their status.
At the end of the day it’s obvious that my son isn’t advancing.
We’re just trying to weigh all the factors and decide if MSU is still in the running or not. Coming out of the weekend he really liked it. I agree with you
why they mail anything out seems silly. Just send an email and be done with it.

Sorry I missed that - the folder never got handed over to me. :wink:
