I dont think I will be receiving this scholarship unfortunately :(. docotopi if you dont mind me asking, what is your background like? im trying to figure out the how they select the recipients.

Porter–it’s not whether your high school itself is underrepresented–it’s whether the TYPE of high school you go to is underrepresented. You could be the only person from your school to ever apply in the history of Michigan–BUT if your school is similar to the type of high school that many Michigan students come from then it won’t be classified as underrepresented.

sabaray, I’m glad you liked the Roadhouse! Alas, I am now hungry just thinking about it, and it’s still two hours to lunch.

As a delicatessen, Zingerman’s is overrated. As a restaurant, it’s way overpriced. Sorry, I had to say that.

rjkofnovi, what would your Ann Arbor dining recommendation be?

Pricing is relative. For the food and experience we had, it was worth every penny. Far better than some comparably priced meals we’ve had elsewhere.

SBDad, am I correct that your son is studying math at Michigan? My D is considering mathematics as a minor.

Yes, that’s correct - and he really loves it. He spends a large majority of his time hanging around East Hall with other math folks. If she is interested in theoretical math, make sure she looks at the 295-296, 395-396 math series.

I will mention that to her. The LSA session seemed full of kids who were thrilled once they realized that math was optional! D definitely doesn’t belong in that group.

@Porter - I’m an Asian male from Virginia. I think I got it because I applied early enough to meet their Early Response deadline and that there probably aren’t that many people from my area/region going to Mich-- most of us think that UVA is a better school and wouldn’t bother with an OOS public school.

I emailed U-M’s Office of Financial Aid about the Feb. 15 deadline for the Michigan Tradition Scholarship (and not wanting pay the deposit until I receive the decisions & financial aid packages from my other schools), and this is what they said:

“Thank you for your message. If you do not send in the enrollment deposit by the Feb. 15, 2009, you will forfeit the Michigan Tradition Scholarship. You may not be able to appeal the forfeiture.”

Polarize, when did you email them?

Thanks for your answer. I’m praying to get some sort of significant money from them. It would be nice to win a 50,000 one or so.

Polarize, a deposit for the $40,000 scholarship well worth it whether or not your set on going to UM or not.

The deadline for the deposit is due tomorrow and i was planning to pay online but i can’t find the link. I can’t mail it in either because the post office is close. the scholarship is the only thing i have and i need it. can anyone help me? please i’m desperate.

You do not need to pay the deposit to secure your scholarship. You should have received the following email:

"Congratulations on your admission to the University of Michigan !

You recently received our letter regarding the Michigan Tradition Scholarship and an acceptance deadline of February 15 for your scholarship award. We would like to clarify that the date in the letter pertains only to your acceptance of the Michigan Tradition Scholarship award. It does not affect the deadline for the submission of the enrollment deposit for the University of Michigan , which remains May 1, 2009 .

We understand that the acceptance deadline may have created some confusion, and we would like to offer our assistance to you and your family if you have any questions regarding your scholarship. If you have decided to enroll elsewhere, we would appreciate notification as soon as possible. Please send an email to financial.aid@umich.edu to let us know of your plans. We appreciate your understanding and again apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

We hope that you choose to “Go Blue” and join us as a member of the class of 2013!"

Just email Financial Aid, tell them you want the scholarship as part of your aid package, and then call them on Monday.

If you are certain you wish to enroll at Michigan, then after you “view decision” on Wolverine Access, it will give you the option to pay the deposit and commit to enrolling at Michigan.

Hopefully that made sense.

This year’s letter does not say that the $40,000 scholarship ($5,000 per semester) requires payment of the enrollment fee by a certain date. It says, “to accept your Michigan Tradition Scholarship, all you need to do is pay your enrollment deposit as soon as possible to secure your admission to the University.” I believe the enrollment deposit is due by May 1.

Got the tradition scholarship along with another 20k per year engineering scholarship. Black male with a widow mother, so I guess that got me the tradition one. I’m amazed at how Michigan can give out so much money. It’s going to be cheaper for me to go to Michigan OOS than UIllinois in state. That’s just sad for Illinois.
