Post #97, same way in my family, particularly from my father. He still has a contempt, almost hatred for “the rich”. It’s kind of odd, as even though he grew up poor, he was friends with many of the “rich kids”, who he has said were very nice to him, and even considers that they saved his life on a few occasions. You should have seen his face when I informed him, that after all those decades of saving, investing and never spending money on any of the normal things that people do, he is now part of the filthy, evil, rich. I wonder if the resentment was because of his parents attitudes.
He always drilled into us that money doesn’t matter, money doesn’t matter. Yet one day, during a brief moment of clarity, he told me (in what appeared to be an epiphany for him), that money does matter, because it allows you freedom to do what you choose with your life.
