mid-sized SUV suggestions?

But they do report issuance of a salvage title, which I found out (too late) had been the case in my situation. It’s a wise investment, even if not perfect. If it’s not complete enough for your purposes, by all means, roll the dice.

trade-in was looking at some significant repairs in next month, so we had some timings pressure as i’m headed out of town for the week on business. Spouse wastes no time when mind is made up…

Love, love, love our Tiguan. We have had half a dozen VWs across our extended family over the last decade plus and saw worse reliability issues with the Ford and Toyota (yes, Toyota!)

was looking at Nissan rogue too. see many of them on the road.

OP, I know you bought a car so are no longer looking for advice, but had a funny realization today that I thought I’d share.

I have a 6yr old hybrid Highlander with 135K miles and a very cracked windshield. Today, I was driving by all the new car lots with the balloons, banners, etc. and realized I wasn’t even glancing over to see what the new cars looked like. I had zero ‘new car envy’ and thought there’s not a car on any of those lots that I’d trade my current car in for. Gave the old car a pat on the steering wheel.

I’m going to be very depressed when I have to give this car up.

Get the windshield fixed. That can be dangerous. Many insurance companies have special coverage for that.

S1 just ended his tenure as a BS patrol leader, so the need to haul 7 people around is gone, so I thought the end of the minivan era would be in a few months, it just came quicker than I had expected. So far, it seems to meet our needs and fits in the garage better than the van.

I already am looking at the car I want when D1 takes the current small car to college in a year or two. I want a small convertible, with the BMW 328i at the top of the list. (haven’t done a test drive, just like the look!)

I like th lexus RX but with two kids in college…

You can get a used RX. There haven’t been a lot of changes in the past few years. Mine is exactly 7 years old (got it just after memorial day in 2005) and its going strong. I have no plans to replace mine any time soon.

I have one of the first of the newer edition Toyota FJ Cruisers. it’s bright blue and has over 100,000 miles and going strong. Negatives are the backseat comfort, backing up visibility and the small rear doors. Positives are 4 wheel drive when I need it, front seat comfort and how cool it looks!

I just let go of my 2000 RX 300 3wks ago. It had 175k miles. Son was in middle school when we got it, took him through HS, undergrad and grad school. Kept son safe on road trip to see the US Great car I really recommend one. Style has not changed much and it was still beautiful when I said goodbye. I hope a nice family gets her.
I know 2 families who wanted Lexus SUV, settled for Highlander, wasn’t satisfied and later bought the Lexus RX. Our neighbor wanted the RX, got something else for a few yrs and now has a 2006 brought 2yrs ago.
Oh… Replacement car BMW 135i convertible. Used but just perfect 4 me.

I know OP has bought the new car, but I would like to give a shout out to the Buick Rendezvous. We bought ours 7 years ago. It has an optional third row and side airbags (newish/option at the time of purchase) but still gave decent mileage (over 21 mpg combined use). It now has 130,000+ miles on it and has been very reliable/low cost to maintain.
If buying in a snowy place, spring for AWD as the FWD “traction control” is not the same as AWD. Also, be aware that when the third row is utilized, there is very little cargo room.
We have hauled 7 people lots of time in the past and I will be sad to downsize for the next car. Younger kid will get this one in about a year and I will get something smaller/greener.
