Mini-van Delight (or Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Reynolds)

I thought the Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Reynolds’ hit went something like this: “Baby-baby, fallin’ in love/ Um fallin’ in love again…” (shrugs.)

Anyway, great reviews Curm! I remember Hamiliton very fondly from my time there in the late '70s. Did you visit the Root Glen while you were there? It’s truly a wonderful nature walk with foot bridges spanning stream-coursed ravines, with lots of trees, wildflowers, and general natural ambience. I never saw Mid, but the views of the Adirondack foothills from Hamilton enchanted me daily. You were able to see Utica from the top floor of the Bristol Campus Center building? I don’t recall being able to see Utica from that spot. I do remember seeing the surrounding country-side from there. As I recall, there were lots of small townships in the immediate vicinity, lots of small farms. But Utica was a good 20 min drive away then. If you can indeed see Utica from the Bristol, they’ve experienced quite a bit of “urban” encroachment since my time there.

poetsheart , from Rm.2 on the 4th floor you can see downtown Utica in all her glory ,very clearly I might add. Great view of the foothills , too.

And yes, D visited the Root Glen. She was very impressed.

Amen, sister, preach on! Unless DD is just putting on a good show, I’m much more consumed with the college process than she. Next week she is doing an overnight at Hendrix and an overnight at Rhodes. Hopefully that will get her a bit more interested in the application process (crossing fingers).

I remember those bad old days of getting D energized to complete applications. We did try to help with time management–we might say, in a non-judgmental, non-stress-producing way: “You know, Sunday night might be a good time to have a first draft of your #1 essay ready.”

Applying EA helped to get the creative juices flowing. But what saved D was the fires in San Diego the fall of her senior year. School was closed for a whole week, ECs were cancelled, everyone stayed inside to watch TV and stay out of the smoky air. She spent a lot of time working on her apps.

Not that I would wish a natural catastrophe on you. . .

Redlands dorms-what is the attraction? The rock mascot really did it for my son. He and interviewer discussed at length living in Fairmont w/rock vs freshman dorm. Son was happy with choice at freshman dorm. He is now at the rock-just up the sidewalk from the hippies.

Curmudgeon, I like your idea! And it doesn’t hurt that they’d be close to the prisons in Huntsville.

fireflyscout, that was part of the tour.;)

curmudgeon,

We listen to sappy repetitive 70’s music in our office (non-offending)…thanks to you I can’t get this out of my head:

“Don’t pull your love out on me baby
if you do then I think that maybe
I’ll just lay me down and cry for a hundred years”

Gotta get satellite radio for the office, thanks for the push.

PS loved the reviews

three days of that song in my head, now. thanks a lot, C.

OTOH, it did replace the song I’d heard in the supermarket the other day, and was truly driving me to madness:

“AAAffffternoon Delight” :(

Winchester Cathedral, a bo de o doe, you’re bringing me downnnnn, you stood and you watched as , my baby left town (Take that you musical sophisticates. Try to get that song out of your head. It’s like that Twilight Zone episode with the earwigs.)

“God didn’t make little green apples
And it don’t rain in Indianapolis in the summertime”

“Me and Mrs., Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones,Mrs. Jones
We got a thing going on”

Try not to think about those two lovelies.

I’m Henery the Eighth I am, Henery the Eighth I am I am…

Oh fireflyscout, now you’ve gone and done it! :p

You dee-serve a break today!
So get up and get away
To McDonald’s
We do it all for yew-ew-ew!

I started a separate thread for this in the Cafe

You people are truly evil.

How was the stay at Bristol? I have yet to see the rooms there and was curious if it was worth the price.

cur last summer I went to sister’s 50th b-day party. She and her h are both Hamilton grads and there were some classmates at the party. A great group and they’re still connected to the school. Having visited her there I’ve got fond memories of the campus too. I hope mugderella keeps it on her list.

no more complaining about this process- this is my third year in a row!!!I never want to hear the word college or application again!!!

oh, and how 'bout

MacArthur Park…someone left the cake out in the rain…

pokey318, I remember (now) I owe you a report! Sorry. The Bristol is perfect for a campus visit. Clean. Fresh. Convenient. $80 including all taxes ,everything. Can’t begin to tell you how pleased we were in our choice.

Twilight zone with earwigs? Do you mean the Star Trek movie where Checkov had the earwig and accompanying fluids leak out of his ear? There can’t be TWO such scenes in the world, can there? But thanks for bringing it up - I’ll focus on that instead of the music.

Speaking of tunes that squat in your head, when will cc get audio to go along with the menu of smiley face symbols?

Cur, Glad you liked Bristol. I hate to recommend a place without staying there myself. I am happy it was to your liking. It will be perfect for those visits to my daughter when hubby can’t come along. OK, I shouldn’t say can’t come, rather can’t afford the airfare for 2 all the time!! Daughter is eating up those frequent flyer miles all by herself, leaving very little for her parents.
