Well, the dept of edu does not allow medical leave of absence nor to restart school year next Fall. Hence we do not have that option. There is however an education code that allows leave of absence to 1% of students in school for reasons other than medical…like if they want to go on supervised travel, work or intern etc. I have asked he school district for that option but no one has answered for the past 1.5months. I have sent several reminders. Yet no answer.
Ideally he should be allowed to restart sophomore next year. But either there are no provisions for that or our public school consists of politically motivated heartless staff who don’t care to make it happen. From their silence, it is apparent that either they cannot make it happen or that they do no want to make it happen. So ultimately, it will not happen!
Someone in the thread said that my son’s story will make a great college essay as long as he does not complain about or blame the school. Well, the reality is that public schools are to be blamed. They and their negligence it the reason my son is injured. As well as, they have a lot of powers but choose to do nothing to support a student’s education needs. In reality, a major reform is needed to bring justice to the many students who fell victim in the hands of these power mongers in public schools who are very well protected by lawyers and government immunities. It is impossible to write a college essay without calling out the reality…which will be taken as offensive by other educational institutions, which again may not be any different than public schools! I think it is time to question the need to send our kids to colleges/educational institutions that have built up a fortress around themselves to do as they please and there is absolutely nothing a single student can do to get justice if they wronged them.
