As a favor to myself, I’m gonna go ahead and interpret that as a compliment. I mean, missile? Whoo, yeah. :)

I still occasionally get this one too. I forgot that i signed up for a class-- usually something very mathematically advanced so I can’t just wing it-- and I realize the final is today.

My spouse actually DID miss an important physics final once because his alarm clock failed to go off. He blew this course and it truly impacted his GPA. Thirty years later he still uses two alarm clocks for important events.

starbright-
I’ve had that exact same dream.
Younger s commented the other day that he almost had this experience in real life. Friend said in passing that he was studying for the big orgo test the next day. DS says “WWWWHHHAATTT???” having no idea there was a big test the next day and there was no way he could study in time. Turns out the test was for the FOLLOWING Monday, a week away, as DH had thought. Whew.

I’m glad this thread revived. Does anyone ever dream they are reading something? I mean where you are really reading new material and sentence by sentence the dream reveals what the words are and you know you’re dreaming and it’s weird? I’ve had it twice recently – in one of them I was reading a CC post!

^Wow, you know you’ve been on CC too much when…
I dn’t think I’ve dreamt of particular words yet. I have had two dreams though where in the dream I say “oh I must be dreaming” and I wake myself up…but of course I am still in my dream and don’t realize it until later when I wake up for real.

I’ve also had dreams where I know I’m in a dream. Like I know I dream in color because I recall once saying to myself while dreaming 'oh wow, we definitely dream in color because this dream is pretty vibrant…"

Have you ever dreamt that you are jogging and never get tired? I wish it could be so.

I’ve also had the dreams mentioned previously that you can fly. But it’s actually more like swimming, you’re just going up in the air.

Lol, I’m a student, and I never got a dream about a test…even though, IRL, I forget tests on a regular basis. (“Hey, how do you think the Gov test will be?” “…There’s a Gov test?” “Yeah, next block…You’re in trouble, aren’t you?”)

I think I’ve read things at least once before…I recall reading something in a dream that was definitely in English, but the words didn’t make sense. I can always tell if my memories are a dream or not. I’ve had dreams where I sort of “glide” although I am making all the motions of running…Most of my recurring dreams are very comfortable. Like I am reading a book in a familiar place (not that I’ve ever seen it IRL). Something about nostalgia for my childhood?

And if a psychologist reads this thread, s/he’ll know a lot about our personalities in theory :p

^ The weird thing is I definitely never had these final exam dreams til I was long out of college!

Dreams don’t say anything about us…best to ignore the psychobabble (except to tease others).

^^^^Tell that to my husband. He claims he doesn’t dream. I tell him, “So I dreamed that I was flying, only it was more like swimming up to the vaulted ceiling, and then the tornado sirens started screaming and I was running around looking for a basement to hide in, when I realized that I forgot to drop my physics class and the final is tommorrow. Right as I was freaking out, my teeth began crumbling out of my mouth, and I tried to scream, but only a whisper would come out. Then I choked on a tooth, and woke up in a cold sweat.”

He thinks I’m a total loon.

^Whoa! Iiiiiiiiitttttt’ssssssss…Mega-Monster Dream!!

I actually DO know someone who missed the final … it was during his study abroad semester; he slept late and he failed the class as a result. His admission to an ivy 3/2 program was revoked because of it. I would say that was not a dream, but a nightmare.

Nrdsb4, it sounds like you do enough dreaming for two people! No wonder your husband doesn’t have to! :)

I read somewhere that those who don’t feel they dream just do not remember dreaming, but that everyone does.

I have “the dream” too; Usually I’m trying to get to class, and for one reason after another (including I have not been to class in a VERY long time, and can’t seem to find it ) keeps me from getting there. Sometimes I wake up and realize there is something else I am late for, or having trouble getting to.

I graduated mrd school in 1984.

“Professor wants to know where S is…no one has seen him. His friends call his cell phone - no answer! Professor makes 2 kids run across campus to check his room”

What school is THAT?

'What about the tooth dream? Anyone have the dream where your teeth are crumbling in your mouth?"

OMG!

My dentist told me this wasn’t uncommon.

In my recurring school dream, it’s always undergrad, and I always know that I’ve finished med school and that I don’t HAVE to go back, but I still NEED to go back. I THINK I think I can do it better.

Last weekend, in a nap, I had the crumbling teeth dream. It was so real that I woke up and immediately thought that I had to call the dentist. I hate that dream.

It’s really fascinating how some of these dream themes are so common (crumbling teeth, missed the final, flying, naked in front of the class, etc…). Do you think the themes are universal or just common to us in this country because of our similar environments and experiences? I wonder if an African tribesman dreams about crumbling teeth?

^^^^^Lol, good question.

I never had the crumbling teeth dream, but I actually lived it! I managed to break off one of my front teeth by hitting myself in the mouth with a belt buckle while hurriedly unloading a suitcase (if you can believe that). After the initial sting, I vividly remember feeling something crumbly on my tongue, and I had this awful thought that I had broken off and destroyed a tooth…I ran to a mirror and almost fainted at the sight. I looked like a witch. Thank heavens for talented dentists.

I can only wish it had been a dream.

I have had variations on ALL of the above-described dreams. However, I lived through what I call the maternity version of the “not prepared for the final exam” dream–when I was 7 1/2 months pregnant with DS–in the days before cell phones, and when only doctors had beepers–my water broke. I was at work and like an idiot I drove myself home. It was New Year’s Eve day, and DH had taken the day off to shop for marble countertops for the bathroom we were renovating for the new baby. I called 4 or 5 friends to drive me to the hospital, none of whom were home, until I finally got one friend who hung up on me in her haste to get in her car and come get me.

I had to leave a note on the back door for DH that I was at the hospital! My friend stayed with me for about 3 hours until DH came home, saw the note, practically had a heart attack and raced to the hospital.

It was all good–DS is 25, working in a job he likes and off the payroll.
