MIT 2017 hopefuls

Hi my name is JR and I’ve been interested in MIT since 2010 when I visited my older sibling (attended MIT) for the first time. I’m interested in studying brain and cognitive studies (Course 9 ftw!!) or biological eng. (course 20) but either way, definitely medicine. My favorite superpower would be the ability to absorb other superhero and supervillain superpowers just by looking into their eyes. Dope right?

@hockeydude im also probably gonna for brain and cognitive sciences. thats why i like telekinesis as my superpower

Hi. My name is IE, and I’ve been interested in MIT since childhood (I had a passion for physics since the very beginning :D). I’m planning on studying Physics or Aerospace Engineering, and my favourite superpower is stopping time!

I’m currently extremely worried for my MIT admission, as I’ve been reading some people’s “chance me” posts and realised I’ve got nothing more than good grades to offer. I’m from Switzerland and there we barely have any EC’s. On top of that, any international applicant already has a very slim chance of getting in, so it’s virtually impossible for me to actually be admitted.
I enjoy Maths, Physics, Ice hockey, Linux and reading SF books, and if I ever get in, I’ll be looking forward to meeting you guys!
My other top choices in Colleges would be NYU, Cornell and Columbia. (they have to be in the US as my whole family is moving over there next July).

thats really cool that your from switzerland. you probably have experiences no other applicant can match. as long as you find a way to make yourself unique, i think youll be fine
are there usually a lot of swiss students who go to MIT?

Not that I know of, sadly. We have two amazing technical schools here and most “science nerds” go to those schools. As for what you said, that’s exactly what I was thinking. Bring your strengths forward (for example, I speak 4 languages fluently). How about we make that another thing everyone should post on here, like their favourite superpower, one could say why you think MIT should accept you!

Hi, my name is a226263 and I’ve been interested in MIT since 6th grade, after my first Splash there. I’m interested in studying nuclear engineering, and my favourite superpower would be sharks with lasers.
Applying EA, too.

@bunny2015:
Yeah, same. Haven’t heard anything.
I faxed in my Med. Release and called to ask to confirm that they got it (heavens forbid the fax didn’t go through for some reason and that’s the reason why I don’t get accepted); no one answered. Also sent an email 2 days ago; no response yet.

Where else are you applying?

Hey, I’m AG, from New Jersey, and I became really interested in MIT when I visited it this past weekend, actually. This school is basically my personality in a nutshell, which is actually why I want to get in even moreso than the academics. As my mother described it: “it’s a school full of smartasses!”
My main worry is that I don’t bring anything particularly special to the table, other than a big interest in music. I don’t have really any extracurriculars involving math and science (although I’m probably doing math club/science league this year), and the only contest I was in was the AMC 12 which I scored about an 80 in. Even with music, I was never in any honors bands or anything, but I’m in every band offered in my school, and even the orchestra.
Also, I’m planning to apply EA.

Hi! I’m Andrew and I’ve been interested in MIT since this summer. I’m interested in studying some form of Engineering as well as Music.
My favorite superpower would be the ability to speed/slow things up/down (like this laptop!). I guess this would be similar to time travel except a bit more specific.
This is definitely my first choice and I’ll be applying early.
I love math, science, and piano. I’d say I love cold weather, but maybe that’s because we don’t much cold weather or snow down south!
Best of luck to all of you!

Hello my name is HG and I’ve been interested in MIT since 2010. I visited the campus (along with the Harvard campus) in 2010. I’m interested in studying medicine (I haven’t really decided yet). My superpower would be the ability to read minds.

anyone thinking course 9? B&CS

Now let’s do a MIT application-type question, I’ll start.

List 3 ECs/Accomplishments that are most important to you/impressive. (in no particular order)

Youth Leader at church youth group

Invented a device that ‘pours champagne automatically, thereby avoiding overspill’ that won the London Science Fair (Going to National Science Fair in March, and then hopefully to Intel ISEF)

Published twice for original research in the national young science journal
