Hi Sandro -

The ‘additional information’ section has a very large word limit and you should be able to write about it in there.

Hi Sandro -

The ‘additional information’ section has a very large word limit and you should be able to write about it in there.

Hi Chris!

I am an international applicant from Greece and I would like to ask you something regarding my marks.
I am really worried that you won’t be able to “extract” the right information from my marks, or assess them properly.

The marks we have in the Greek public educational system do not represent the real value and abilities of a student. They just represent how well a student can learn a ton of useless formulas and other information. Generally the Greek educational system is one of the worst in the world. In my entire high school career I 've never been to a physics lab for example.

With those info in mind could you please tell me how are you going to compare me to the other students around the world, or even and to the other teenagers from Greece who will apply to MIT, but attend an IB course? I am saying this because most applicants from Greece usually attend high-profile private schools and study under the IB educational system. I am the exception here, I go to a public school and we have a guidance counselor in our school or anything else.

Thanks in advance!,
Dimitris

Unfortunately, this is how many high schools (in the United States) are.

it’s worst here man. it cannot be compared. it’s not just the wrong direction of the education but also the inability of many teachers to just do their jobs. we can talk more about this topipc on an other thread though, this is the MIT thread. :-)

So i’ve been in contact with MIT’s swim coach, and I filled out the varsity form. She seems to be interested in me, as she emailed my coach and emailed me back. Will indicating participation in an MIT varsity sport have any impact on my chances of admission?

It’s a great thing. It’s not a guarantee of admission by any means, but in a such a competitive process, it’s great to have all the little nudges you can get.

@MITChris

Hello, Chris

Thank you for your prompt answer.

The deal here is that I have already used my Optional Additional Information field to address another subject, which is more personal than academic.

How can I proceed?

Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,
Sandro Rodrigues

sandro -

if you need to you can send an additional form.

I will do that. Thank you for your insight, Chris.

Hi Chris, I just wanted to ask you a question concerning the TOEFL:
Somewhere in the ‘important dates’ section there’s a line stating that the last month for ‘standardized testing’ is January. Does it also apply to the TOEFL - can we test in January and send in scores directly to MIT ?
Thanks ahead,
David

yes david!

Thanks a lot Chris!

What is considered significant enough to warrant an application update letter. Would being selected as a semifinalist in a major scholarship competition be all right, or would it be better to wait to include the information if one was deferred?

Hey I have contacted my interviewer weeks ago and multiple times since then and he/she has yet answered my message. Should I do something about this? There’s no phone number on the contact list. So I don’t know what else to do.

@wellthatsok - doesn’t hurt to fax it in!

@boom - you should email interview@mit.edu

Hello,

How do I know when my Supplemental Document has been received by the Admissions Office? Will it be explicit in my Application Tracking page?

Thank you for your attention so far.

Sincerely,
Sandro Rodrigues

Hello Chris. A couple weeks ago I signed up for an overnight visit that is supposed to be this week, and I still haven’t received a confirmation email. Is there someone I should email to check up on this or should I assume that there was no one to host me on that date? Thanks!

Wow this is a truly amazing thread.

@MITChris: thanks!

I wanted to ask whether I can use rec from my Accounting teacher as a humanities teacher’s? Accounting isnt listed in SHASS courses but economics is. My language teacher doesnt know me very well so she wont be able to tell much about me.
