** MIT International Applicants' Thread 2017 **

Oh btw, Amol Bhave had a SAT score of 1900.

The guy who “contributed” to edX? Wow.
Maybe his essays were better…

^when you have something extraordinarily unique, I don’t think essays are important. He got in because he made a unique contribution to the Online Study Courses which MIT admires a lot.

Damn the second short one! How should we answer it???

That’s just another proof of the “holistic” approach that MIT follows. While the SAT is an important part of the application, it is just that.

How many of you received an interview?

Well, my interview was waived by the admissions office. :frowning:
Anyway, where in the world is quiverfox? @quiverfox, you celebrating bro?

I was also rejected. I guess the perfect SAT II score and being ranked nationally in Archery and UKMT Gold and distinctions in Edx and Coursera just isn’t enough

@ RisingDragon. quiverfox is rejected. I found him in MIT Admissions Blog.

My interview was waived too.

Aw, man! quiverfox seems like a wonderful dude and MIT’s decision doesn’t change that for sure.

I’m an international student and I got an interview. However, I still regret getting one because the EC that I got was really racist…

Congratulations! Care to share your application/scores?

I’m a Canadian who was accepted. 2170 SAT (740M, 720CR, 710W E:10), 720 MII and 710 Bio-E.

Certainly not a varsity athlete in the US, and I haven’t really competed in any STEM competitions (or anything of the sort, really). I do a lot of student government work, and I’m an advisor for my provincial government, but other than that, I guess they just liked my essays (or I should go play a lot of roulette).

Hey Guys…I’m back:D…with a Rejection…Thanks soo much guys for showing Hope:) Oh and sourav…***…I haven’t been on the internet for the past 8 days!!!

Well I learnt one of my biggest lessons from decisions at least…to not put all of one’s eggs in a single basket…and that that too with one which has MIT scribbled all over it;)

at least now I really know that MIT wants a international medal…to at least guarantee(at least somewhat :P) a glimmer of hope.
Oh and have you guys noted…out of the ‘n’ candidates they take(4/5/6)…n-1 have IMO/IOI/IChO/IPhO and the other 1 candidate has some special circumstances…

So the moral is that we were all jumping about for that 1 other spot…seems like a joke now:)…
Don’t know much about the other(exclusive of Bangladesh) countries…But this is the Indian tale…

this is not hate…but for at least those fools like me  who actually thought they saw a ray of light…

^Exactly!!

I was one of those fools until December 2012!

Just received word from a friend in my class who got into MIT EA (US citizen…) and he said that 4 people got in (in total) to MIT from the UK, 3 early action (1 male (my friend), 2 females, all American citizens…) and 1 regular (international and female)

^ not sure where you got your info from - i know least one kid (international and male) who got in RD

I am a European Regional Chair of the MIT Educational Council. This year there were 11 students admitted from the UK. That is down from last year’s 15 (which was a record year). Admittedly, the UK does have a significant American expatriate community so that number is inflated by domestic applicants.

@Mikayle , thanks! Would you be able to tell me how many internationals were accepted from the UK??

Thanks :)
