Not every MIT applicant had the opportunity to do research in high school, obviously.</p>

It’s absolutely possible to get into MIT without science- or math-based extracurriculars (I did theatre and choir in high school, my husband was a freestyle skiier). I’m not sure what you mean by “science-based focus”.</p>

<p>Yes, it’s definitely possible, but MIT still looks for strength in math/science. That’s what makes MIT so unique: it’s becoming a very well-rounded university like Harvard, but it still maintains a “techy spin.”</p>
