Hey guys, also applying for MITES 2015.
My entire application is practically done, which I’m pretty proud of.
One question to any of you MITES Alumn out there;
How greatly do one’s teacher recommendations serve for an applicant? Are they extremely important??
I’m just wondering because my math and science teachers sent me their recommendations and I have never been so flattered in my life! haha, they had so many great things to write about. and my essays are really strong as well.
The deadline is this Wednesday guys
Is anyone feeling absolutely confident in their application? Anybody need to rant? Is anyone as nervous as I am?
@lamquiteloud I’m confident in my app except for my test scores, the fb group makes you a little less nervous though because everyone is going through the same things/ are just as nervous as you
@brendauo101 which test scores are you turning in?
@wifipassword How do you know what you’re teachers wrote in the letters of Rec? I thought it was confidential info?
What did you guys write in your 6th essay? I have no idea what to write about.
@succulents I think it’s confidential but they showed me the recs after already submitting it. There really isn’t much to say, tbh.
And for the sixth essay, you can try writing about anything! I wrote about an experience I had with my physics teacher that changed his outlook on the class
Oh, geez. Are you guys having a problem with the essays showing up in VIEW? The essays are saved etc., but I don’t see my first two ones (blank pages 1-2 in VIEW).
Don’t worry, I had the same problem too. I just went back to my first essay, edited it (you can just erase a period and then add it back on so nothing changed), and click save and next for all the subsequent essays. After I did this, I was able to view all of my essays again.
Also, for the SAT scores part, I know you can superscore and all, but for the part where it only lets you enter scores from one date, does anyone know whether I should I enter my highest composite score or my superscore?
I am confused where do I enter my test scores? I just see a block of text.
@Iamquiteloud I’m submitting my PSAT scores from 2013 & sat scores from June 2014. I didn’t take the PSAT this year and I wasn’t going to be unprepared and take it in Jan lol
@ZucchiniSoup you enter your tests scores under the Courses and Test scores section. Then, you chose which test you enter scores for. If you want, you can also upload them as a pdf file.
Does anyone know how much being a URM affects your chances. While I am a minority, the Chinese aren’t really underrepresented, and I am neither particularily poor nor a potential first generation college graduate, but I have spent an incredible amount of time on the essays and would really love a chance to attend this program.
Submitting by tonight! Don’t want the website to crash on me tomorrow!
Does anyone know what to put in the sat score thing if we haven’t gotten our january results yet? it wont let me put nothing, so i just converted my psat scores into sat scores…
@nobodybutchu don’t do that, they’ve repeatedly said that you will be allowed to edit the test scores section until feb 18 bc jan sat scores come out feb 12
How long did the essays take you guys? Is anyone else starting to get stressed about it? @nobodybutchu I’m having the same problem with the SAT score but I’m gonna mark “no” for having taken it, and later email them if there is a problem!
Do you know if you can apply to MITES if you do not have any test scores?
Finally… For me… It is over; it is over.
