MIT reject- Good indicator

I say that many students who get rejected at MIT are in fact veeery good students. It’s quite bad that MIT doesn’t have a bigger undergraduate body.

Rejected. 1530 SAT, 750 IIC, 740 Writing, 740 Bio. 3.7uw GPA, 10 APs, NHS Prez. After being rejected by UCLA as well i’m seriously worried if I’ll get into any school.

i know a guy who got rejected from MIT from 10-12 he has a 4.999999999999 so i’d say it was 5, but has an unweighted of 4.0, 1560 on sats and probably 800’s on at least 2 of his sat II’s and hes head of MUN and hes on tennis and does a crap load of community service hours. What more are they asking for? i know another girl who has a 4.8 and a guy with a 4.8 who both got 1560’s and 800’s arcoss the board. they all write incredible essays, have more community service hours than at least 15 people i know put together each. I also forgot to mention that the school they go to is in the top 100 in the country, and top 20 public schools in the country. What are they looking for? Arent they the model students that they want???

dont be, but boy skinny, what ethnicity are you? because all the poepl i know that have been accepted are asian and white. Dont worry you’ll get in somewherer good.

ScubaSteve87 - out of a hat? are you insane? you clearly have no idea how admissions works then. why do you think they pay adcoms to select each class? because they like to spend money? think before you post next time

Don’t take a rejection as a sign of future rejections. Take a rejection as proof that the school you wanted isn’t worth wanting.

Son got wait-listed for MIT, but he’s always been a little concerned about the guy-girl ration there. He prefers UCLA for applied math. And he got in…

ucmother - mit is close to 50-50 now… they’re like 54-46 or something… in fact, i think the new class (09) is just about 50-50

Let’s face it, MIT had more students with perfect “tangibles” than they could possibly accept. They had to look at the “intangibles” of the applicants - essays, recommendations, ECs, etc.

You cannot take a rejection from MIT personally. It is one of the two most selective schools in the US. See:

At that level, many students who are rejected are the equals of those accepted. Sometimes it’s just a numbers game.

bboy_skinnylegs: are you serious?!?!

MIT rejection is not a big surprise but UCLA?!?!?!?
(I’m not implying that your stats were too low for MIT; its just that MIT along with other elite colleges are so capricious about their decisions)

I never knew UCLA was such high reach. I know a korean guy who was accepted this year with 1200 SAT and okayish GPA but very good EC’s (few leadership positions and lots of community service). I guess UCLA is looking more towards EC’s now.

Just take UCLA as all the misfortunes you can ever get in your life. You’ll certainly get accepted into other schools.

UCLA must have done it because they thought he was using them as a safety.

i just checked out other ppl’s UCLA decisions and hell, alot of ppl with his stats were rejected!!! whereas some 1200’s and 1300’s were accepted .
