<p>I am not sure I follow this. Why is the posting of an article that is not only accurate but extremely relevant to this case considered offensive?</p>

My sister committed suicide at the age of 30 following a hidden 2 year battle with depression. She was a straight A student. Perfect SAT score. Harvard undergrad early admission. Harvard MBA. 6 figure income. Great career path.</p>

<p>On October 28th, 2004 she gave up. My brother in law found her in the garage. She had locked herself in the car with the engine running and a plastic tube from tailpipe to a crack in the window as what she thought was her only way out. And the only explanation we got out of it was a post it note stuck to the dashboard saying she was sorry.</p>

<p>What was she sorry for?</p>

<p>The culture is broken …and too damn proud to give those around her the opportunity to create a much needed support network when she fell into a depression. The entire notion of saving face and needed to keep certain things quiet for fear of losing face is not helping when it intersects the pressures people face on all levels.</p>

<p>Awareness is a start. Talk about it. Acknowledge that depression is an illness that needs and can be treated and NOT something for people to be ashamed of and hide from their family.
But how can you do this when the culture is broken at this level and does NOT support an environment that would allow for people in trouble to seek help and receive it.

<p>The FACT that teens from a certain ethnic group have to cope with extraordinary pressures is something that should be addressed and not buried. When more than one student from Silicon Valley decides to jump on the tracks on a Caltrain, it is no longer an accident or a mere incident. </p>

<p>As I wrote before, we (as a society) tend to overlook how fragile the younger generations are. Professionals who deal with the frailties of the human mind know better. </p>

<p>Shocking one’s sensibilities is long overdue.</p>
