It would be fun to get all the MIT parents together

I think a student who got into MIT would be able to get a good scholarship somewhere else. Do you really have no options besides Rutgers?

Yeah, it’s called Family Weekend. Walk around the classes and feel like a sore thumb.

This time of year the options are the final decisions- all of the rest of it went on months ago. Rutgers may be tops in one small area of grad school math but its overall math and computer science programs are not known as the top ones. It would be on the radar of the college math student knowing this is the area of math s/he wants. Of course, top students at all flagships taking advantage of all their school has to offer will be considered by grad programs as they know students often go where can afford to. However, the opportunities are much greater on all levels at MIT and the knowledge base likely to be better when applying for jobs/grad schools.

You can also go to the orientation program at the beginning of the school year to meet other parents. They have many events to help parents meet together. I think this is a much better program than other Move-In program in some other colleges. MIT parents don’t have to move anything. They just go there for fun.

Perazziman - Discrete math and combinatorics - GRAD school, not undergrad?

Parentofsd - congrats - a very bright future is ahead. Tell your kid to enjoy the education and the amazing people he ( or she) is about to get to know.
