MIT vs. Stanford

These two schools are both fantastic colleges. I got into Stanford, didn’t apply to MIT, but if I did and got in, I’d have a very tough time deciding between the two. MIT is stronger in science and engineering (as the name implies), but not by much. MIT is also tougher in terms of grades, but Stanford also requires a lot of hard work, contrary to its reputation for being laid-back. In terms of the student body, Stanford’s is more diverse, but hardcore math/science people will fit better at MIT. Both campuses are beautiful in different ways: MIT is more architecturally unique, whereas Stanford is more aesthetic. As mentioned before, one obvious advantage to Stanford is the California weather.
It all comes down to where you fit in better. Don’t worry about which schools will get you into a great grad program. Both Stanford and MIT have amazing undergrad engineering programs, so as long as you do reasonably well, you’ll have no trouble getting into graduate engineering programs. Best of luck.

“Anyhow, I prefaced this by saying that this was my opinion and my knowledge. I did not purport to be factual. If you want to go around flaming people, because Cali-kids are partial to Stanford, then go ahead. If you actually want to have a reasonable discussion about college options, I suggest you restart your approach.”
Pretty defensive aren’t you. I honestly don’t think my post contained any animosity, and I’m sorry if you find it to be so. Trust me. There was no ill-will in my post. I just simply corrected some of the things you were saying. If everyone in the world gets defensive every time he’s corrected, then we’ll be walking around thinking we’re right all the time. The only reason why I added the clause about Fire was because let’s face it, not everyone knows who Andrew Fire is, so I was merely assuming that you didn’t know who he was.

This is not really true. Most of the MIT buildings were built in the early 20th century after the colonial architecture phase in America.

I have to say that MIT buildings are wonderful. Building7 is awesome. Every time I enter, it’s like coming into a Roman temple of science. How many other colleges have a giant neoclassical building with a dome? The linking tunnels of main campus are very practical, and the dorms, especially Simmons, are very fun and artistic.

I think that your response isnt entirely accurate.

MIT is the best.

'nuff said.

Man, I really wish I were in your position.

I guess I shouldn’t complain. I probably won’t regret my choice (whatever it may be), although it’s what I am afraid of the most. By and by, I’m gonna be visiting Stanford next week.
Thanks for all your responses. They were extremely helpful!
