<p>Job placement isn’t all about “prestige”; if you are talking about investment banking, a lot of it is about network/connection on WS. Our econ department is vastly superior but it’s the connection/network that gives Dartmouth the edge. On the other hand, I’d say MMSS is more prestigious to those in the knows because they know MMSS students have gone through one of the most rigorous programs and have superb quantitative skills. Most Dartmouth students can probably major in econ but many of them may not be able to handle MMSS. That’s why some firms specificly recruit MMSS. MMSS seem to be very well-represented at Boston Consulting Group. Quite a few of the recruiting directors were MMSS alums (look at the campus recruiting website).<br>
I’d say MMSS students may be more marketable in fields that need great quant skills like trading, equity research, economics research (washington think tanks like hiring MMSS)…etc.
Also, MMSS gives students the edge in getting into Kellogg cert program. It’s safe to say overall job placement of Kellogg cert grads is better than any econ program out there. <a href=“Certificate Program for Undergraduates | Kellogg School of Management”>http://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/certificate/students/jobs.htm</a></p>
