This news made me so sad..

Here is a great compilation of photos throughout the years.

This morning, I was listening to my German Podcast Welt Wach. It was a repeat of an episode from 2 years ago with Jane Goodall. I only got to listen to the first half, but will finish tomorrow. She would have been 89 or so in the episode, and said since 2021 she’s worked every day doing multiple virtual interviews.

I admit I didn’t much about her past her work with the chimpanzees, but she is remarkable! So insightful and full of hope - and life! So many good tidbit quotes to reflect on about how to conduct our lives, especially in today’s difficult times. I highly recommend it. It’s mostly in English after the introduction (6:15) and the ad from the Sponsor part way through.

My son and I met Dr Goodall when he was about 8. She would sign books after a lecture, and when her people spotted the few children who were there, she had them pulled and brought to her individually for a chat – probably only about 3 minutes long, but she was kind and attentive and signed his battered much-loved copy of a chapter book bio of her. It’s nice when your heroes live up to the hype.

We got to visit Jane Goodall’s chimp sanctuary in Kenya which was wonderful and my D met her at a lecture/book signing while in college which was a real thrill. RIP.

I came across this article on Jane Goodall. It’s an intriguing concept…Famous Last Words. Thought I’d share:

I just watched the Goodall interview on Netflix. She was wonderful but the host doing the interview is awful. He asks silly questions and often responds to her answers with “Mm” and nods his head. They should have used a better interviewer!

edit: just found out that the host is Brad Falchuk, Gwyneth’s husband. I’m not impressed.

That sanctuary is wonderful for the chimps, but not for the visitors! I read warnings about how mean the chimps could be and they were. One kept targeting my tween daughter, throwing apples at her from behind a fence. We had to take cover in our guide’s vehicle, but the window was open, and she almost got hit by one that was hurled thru the window before we managed to close it!
