Ashford was an original member of the Motown girl group Martha and the Vandellas, best known for their timeless soul pop songs. Not a celebrity but one’s daughter. Don’t even know if he’s a celebrity per se but these continued stories are so very sad. I wish someone had an answer. I wish there was help. I don’t know if people see the signs but there has to be a way to help these folks…especially a 13 year old.

Support your state NAMI chapter with your wallet. Look up suicide prevention programs and support whatever organization offers them.
Funding is a HUGE problem right now. Our state just slashed our funding for suicide prevention by 25%. It’s the main program our state NAMI chapter delivers, so it’s a huge hit.
And don’t blame the family. My nephew gave ZERO warning signs but my sister still feels guilty, 11 years later.
I haven’t heard of the organization. Will look into it.

They offer so many good programs. For law enforcement, teachers, workplaces, etc. Support groups for peers (people with diagnoses) and family members. Family to Family class for family members/friends - that’s how I first learned about NAMI and it was a lifesaver. Each state is different, so the programs they offer may vary.
Many nonprofits are currently struggling, including food banks, Public TV & public radio, health nonprofits, the list is endless.
I’ve heard wonderful things about NAMI.

Well, she’s not the first to die either, and some were older, like Donald Sutherland (Prof. Jennings) who died at 88. But, I get it. It’s astonishing that those actors have gotten older when we certainly haven’t.
