Most Overrated Colleges?

i think that guy is just disgruntled for reasons that aren’t clear. kelly school of business at indiana is one of the top business schools in the country.

Harvards overated.

Stanford and Princeton are overall better than Harvard, both academically and socially. I don’t understand how it became the king of the cream of the crop. Many are rejected at other uni’s and accepted @ harvard and vice versa and yet Harvard students seem to receive much more attention.

*biased

and CalTech is somewhat underated. They go thru the most rigorous course in the US and yet CalTech graduates receive the same reputation as MIT. And CalTech is not widely known as MIT.

I’m at Georgetown now and I have to say this school is the most overrated ***** ever! I can’t believe the kids here have such egos about going to a school that is a temple of mediocrity. DO NOT COME HERE

JHU engineering may not suck, but its not great. I would much rather go to UIUC, UWmadison, or any other big 10 engineering school than JHU. The only “stellar” program they have is bio.

And as for Brown, the school sucks. Anyone who thinks Brown is amazing thinks so for purely emotional reason. The only “special” thing that brown has to offer is their open curriculum which is a load of ********. As I understand it, if you go to Brown, you can take a class all the way up to the date of the final, not attend the final, and get a W for the course. WTH. This is supposed to be education, not coddling. I challenge one person to give me an academic department at brown that is worth attending for 50k/year besides PLME or whatever the advanced med school thing is.

Hudson Valley Community College. More than half the kids in my daughter’s high school go there every year and now even President Obama is making it the “must visit” higher education stop when he is in the Albany area. Nonetheless, I am not sold just yet on whether that love is fully deserved.

CalTech is laughably overrated. Tied with MIT and Stanford? Right. Everyone I know who went to that school hated it. Penn definitely doesn’t belong that high up, either.

The College of New Jersey(TCNJ). people praise as an amazing school and almost equal to Princeton. its a teachers college

Wake Forest, hands down.

All Ivy League schools.

^So do tell us which schools provide superior educations in all subject areas, because remember, it’s not just the school, it’s the program. So tell us the specific school names providing superior programs in art, art history, asian studies, astrophysics, biology, chemistry, classics, engineering, all foreign languages, history, international relations, mathematics, neuroscience, political science, etc. – versus every single Ivy in any program any Ivy offers. Just remember that some Ivies have unique offerings, so good luck with your project.
;)

mamooie why wake forest?

Ranked 30th and yet it has no engineering school, and its buisness program is only ranked in the top 20s.

lol basis on more rankings?

There are many schools that are lesser known/easy to get into that have good departments. If your a math person you look for a school that’s good in science, engineering math. Case Western? I haven’t looked into art schools because I’m not into art. I doubt I will be. There is much more out there besides Ivy League.

Not that it’s a bad thing, but this thread was started in February of 2005.

HV51, I think many of the kids who say they are going to HVCC aren’t actually going anywhere. It’s just a thing to say so they look like they are going somewhere…

Although I’m still in high school and can’t say to have experienced all of Hopkins by a long shot, I can tell you from first-hand experience (I have taken several classes there–NOT CTY) that I was highly disappointed. I have also had several friends go to Hopkins and be entirely disappointed with their experience. It has been described to me several times as a college that was “everybody’s fallback” for one reason or another and that many undergrads don’t want to be there. Obviously this is biased because I’m only hearing from a select few, but based on their feedback and my personal experiences with classes (very easy course material, highly inadequate professors who were clearly very intelligent -people-, just sub-par teachers), I’d say that Hopkins would fall in the overrated category.

HOWEVER, I have heard outstanding things about their graduate programme, so maybe that’s the difference.

A statement I’ve made many times myself.

That’s very different from this statement you made.

Basically any school where grad school success or job market placement is dismal, that isn’t a cheap school, like your local CC or fourth-tier Uni.

Also any school that has horrible financial aid would qualify, as well.

You just succeeded in raising my blood pressure. I will, and have, argued that Wake Forest University is the best school in the country. It is an LAC hybrid school, as it offers a stellar liberal arts education, but also has the academic and financial resources of a research school. Anthony Atala, a researcher at the Medical School will win a Nobel Prize within the next 10-15 years. Steve Reinemund is the dean of the business school and was formerly the #1 CEO in the Country for PepsiCo. Businessweek ranked Wake Forest as the #1 school in terms of its Academic Quality and we consistently rank #1 in terms of our CPA pass rate. Furthermore, we are nestled at the foot of the mountains and are less than four hours away from scenic Wrightsville Beach, easily the most gorgeous beach on the East Coast (and yes I have been to beaches in almost every state and grew up on the Jersey Shore). Our campus is Georgian Brick and lush and our student body is very physically attractive. North Carolina also has a very nice climate, but you still get all four seasons. Additionally, unlike any LAC or LAC-like school we have Division 1, ACC athletics despite the fact that we have a little over 4,000 undergrads. Our Field Hockey, Soccer, and Golf teams are some of the best programs in the country. We have an amazing basketball program that will have another top 5 recruiting class next year. Furthermore, our football team has made 3 bowl appearances in a row. Wake Forest University also owns mansions in three European cities–London, Vienna, and Venice. Casa Artom, the house in Venice, is located on the grand canal <a href=“Home - CER”>Home - CER.

PS:
It is asinine to judge a school by its engineering anyway.

Thank you.
