<p>I might go to UT Austin next year and am really afraid that the budget cuts would slash the linguistics department and raise tuition. Texas is just listed as “high”, less than most of the other states, and UT-Austin is a flagship, but the rhetoric from the governor (mostly) and congress really worries me. Sure, we have $8 billion in the “rainy day fund”, but it looks like it won’t be touched despite the ~$24 billion projected deficit. Also, the congress will probably raise as many regressive fees as they like but no taxes, like last budget.</p>
<p>Of course, Texas public universities already spend way too much on athletics, much like the public secondary schools, but I don’t see them cutting that…</p>
