Motivation for Plebe Summer training

But I firmly believe that a man can be as great as he wants to be. If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done.
But I firmly believe that any man’s finest hour, his greatest fulfillment of all he holds dear, is the moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious.

And for my dad…

“They Can’t Fry Us All!” - Class of '70

A few of the things that will get me through

OH YES THEY CAN!

TRUST ME!

<— One of the few who DIDN’T get fried that day because he actually SHOWED UP where the entire class was supposed to be!

Yup, they can “fry us all” and they did lol. Still a motivational slogan in my house that’s for sure.

Think of this…

“Of all the people who have gone before me, some much smarter, and some not as smart, some more athletic, some not as athletic, they’ve all made it, and so can I…”

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”

Eleanor Roesevelt, who probably was never a plebe!

“If you’re early, you’re on time… If you’re on time, you’re late… and… If you’re late, you’re dead…”

~Sage advice from dad (Ret. Col.)

During the commissioning of USS ARLEIGH BURKE (DDG 51) in 1991, Admiral Burke issued a characteristic challenge to the ship’s crew. “This ship is built to fight,” he said. “You’d better know how.”

Roosevelt, gad!

“Rack hard. Rack fast. Rack often.”

Wow, I JUST read that in a book I’m reading now (The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman). Wild coincidence!

Its also in “The Perfect Mile”- very inspirational book, esp. if you like running. Good quote too.

I’m a firm believer in that nothing happens by coincidence – Everything happens for a reason…

It’s also on the back of Spider’s wrestling team t-shirts!

“A Message To Garcia” was required reading for all officers in my squadron:
