Move In Madness

Best tip for moving in I can offer: be early! Moving in is so much easier if you get there right when you can first start (I think it’s usually 8 am?). There are plenty of willing hands to help you, parking is easier, it is cooler, the elevators are not clogged, etc. It makes the day so much smoother! That way, you can have everything more or less unpacked and settled in by lunchtime or early afternoon (by which point you can usually see a thunderstorm brewing), and can make a run to Target or Walmart before things get really crazy in there. Target and Walmart are always very well stocked with college supplies, so you don’t need to buy a ton of stuff before getting there. In fact, for a lot of organizational supplies/shelving/storage items, I would suggest waiting until you’re in the room before buying them. That way, you can tell if you will need a closet organizer, or if that hanging bar will really fit, or if those drawers were really what you wanted. If there’s something you really want to make work in a room, get it, but otherwise, I would hold off until you see the room. Many buildings have a wide variety of configurations (Honors is a prime example of this, but it is very true for many of the other dorms), so you probably won’t know the exact feel and dimensions of your room until you see it for yourself.
