Movies for my parents?

The World’s Fastest Indian-Anthony Hopkins

The true story of older man who seeks to achieve his life long dream of breaking the speed record on his Indian motorcycle. My 76 year old dad loved it.

My parents are in this age bracket. Their favorite movies are:

Coal Miner’s Daughter
Rocky
Anything with Laurel & Hardy
Gunga Din
Margie (with Jeanne Crain)
Beau Geste
The Three Feathers
The Caine Mutiny
Treasure of the Sierra Madre
The Sound of Music
Lawrence of Arabia
Ben-Hur
Around the World in 80 Days
Some Like it Hot
Please Don’t Eat the Daisies
Any James Bond with Sean Connery
Goodbye Mr Chips
The Music Man
Hawaii
MAS*H
Sense & Sensibility
The Odd Couple
Fortune Cookie
The Thin Man
Giant

The World’s Fastest Indian was a movie that took me by surprise. I loved it- it reminded me of my dad, a man who could make anything out of anything.

Wow, thanks for the great suggestions. I now have a long list to email to them.

One NOT to get for the folks … Boogie Nights. Years ago, H & I rented it while visiting the in laws. We didn’t know what it was about. Let’s just say it’s not something you want to watch with mom & dad at any age! ;)

Kelsmom, can’t be worse than “Hot Tub Time Machine” - what a terrible movie - I don’t know how I got hooked into watching it.

Does Netflix do TV series?

Our family really enjoyed the 7 seasons of DVD for “West Wing”, purchased on ebay. (We learned a lot about government, etc. The we had a wedding trip to DC which was actually much more interesting because of what we had seen on the show.)

For historic documentaries about America, including great music, excellent incorporation of historic photographs, and film editing to keep a lively-but-not-insane pace:
[Ken Burns | PBS](http://www.pbs.org/kenburns/)

A sampling of topics over a 25-year career: “Baseball,” “The Civil War,”
“The Brooklyn Bridge,” “Huey Long,” “Jazz” and many more.

Yea, if Netflix does tv series, MASH is a perrenial favorite (we bought the set, didn’t like the movie as well). Seinfeld is also very popular. UP is a happy movie. Camelot with Vanessa Redgrave is one of my all time favorites. Seinfeld is also very popular and makes my mom laugh every time.

The Queen
About A Boy
Billy Elliot

FYI-
We just lowered our Cable bill (have three things on it… phone, cable TV and internet) by calling and complaining of escalating costs… Anyway, lowered it by $37 a month. Husband decided to upgrade our cable TV by $10 a month and we now get a package that includes many, many showtime channels. Lots more to watch. Goodbye Netflix…

In the Jane Austen mode: Persuasion with Ciran Hinds. Lovely.
