I have a 13 yr old son, and have been taping some movies off of TV for “family movie night”…I keep goofing though, because I’ve forgotten how inappropriate some of these movies were when I watched them 25 odd years ago. 3 major goofs were: Animal House, Footloose and Saturday Night Fever. Big was a hit as was Witness. I thought we might try Groundhog Day next.

Indiana Jones movies are good
The Thing by John Carpenter
North by Northwest
12 Angry Men
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
Naked Gun
The Man Who Knew Too Much
Batman (1989)
Murder on the Orient Express
The Conversation
X Men
Stand and Deliver

Groundhop Day is a big one at my house, but more for Dad than kids.

Apollo 13 - how did we miss that one?

*when my D was that age- I couldnt tell you how many times she saw the lord of the rings movies

They weren’t that long ago, were they?*

Well I meant my 15 year old sorry :o - I think the last one came out just a couple years ago.

I third Princess Bride- if noone has seen that it is a must see

dke – agree about Animal House and Sat. Night Fever.

Watching Animal House 20+ years later == just wasn’t funny.

And although “Grease” is a fun, upbeat movie, “Sat. Night Fever” is not.

October Sky
Rudy
Sky High
Freaky Friday
Sky Captain & the World of Tomorrow
Evelyn

A huge favorite is Billy Eliott. It does have the “f-word” flying around, as it enters the world of British miners during the Thatcher labor strikes. (Their accent is so strong that my son didn’t know what they were saying.) It’s the story of a poor, widowed miner’s son who becomes a ballet dancer. One of my favorite movies, my kids loved it, and they still sing T Rex songs from the soundtrack.

I’d forgotten about Billy Eliott - great movie! Thank you to everyone who posted. We should have enough movies for the next few years.

Our family favorites-
About a Boy
To Kill A Mockingbird
A Christmas Story (any time of year)
It’s a Wonderful Life (ditto)
The Mummy
Pirates of the Caribbean
Door to Door
Elf
Mulan
Aladdin
Toy Story 2…
October Sky
The Shining (OK, maybe not for the little kids…)
Big Fish
Secondhand Lions
Willow
