Movies & TV Shows You Just Don't Get

Well I never got the appeal of “The Apprentice”, but…

Oh yes, Lost in Translation definitely belongs on my list here. Kind of hard to get into a movie when you don’t like the two characters at the center of it.

Glad to find others who don’t get Seinfeld. Loathsome people. Thought the Office was OK, though.

I don’t get The Batchelor or The Bachelorette. IMO both tv shows are ridiculous. I must be in the minority because both shows have been on for many seasons.

Me too about Seinfeld. Have never understood why it was so popular.

I don’t like reality tv. But I also do not really like or watch any 30 minute shows. So I do not watch Big Bang Theory or Modern Family.

@doschicos There are some movies or TV shows that I can enjoy, but still think are overrated. So yes, while I have liked some of his films, I do think they are overrated.

Woody Allen movies.

Realty shows in general Real Housewives of…

I did like The Office.

LOL, our family LOVES Seinfeld. Through the years we’d find ourselves in situations where we’d be saying “this could be a Seinfeld episode”. We still watch the reruns and laugh our behinds off. So stupid that it’s funny. Obviously, some episodes are better than others but overall we still love it.

For me it’s Dr. Who. My husband is a big fan and asked me to sit and watch one episode all the way through with him, to see if I like it, and I could barely sit through even that. Just don’t get it. At all.

Star Trek - tv show and movies (ducking)

Criminal Minds. I can’t help feeling like it’s a send up of NCIS with excessively clipped dialog and overdrawn caricatures of the letter show’s cast. I have to leave the room if it’s on. I mean, I’ve been requested to leave the room.

Dr Who is SO cheesy. And a lot depends on who the doctor is (I’m all about #10, David Tennant). If you know ahead of time that it is cheesy, and watch the right incarnation of the doctor, it is pretty great. (Just Googled, and it looks like maybe they are bringing David Tennant back?!?!?) I stopped watching with Peter Capaldi.

Sports. All of them. I think the idea of grown people watching other grown people play games is the most heart breakingly boring thing I’ve ever heard of. I don’t mind playing sports. I don’t mind watching people I know play sports because it’s fun to encourage each individual that you have…you know…a relationship with.

But watching a bunch of steroid bloated strangers play sports has to be the most off-putting thing I can imagine. It’s nearly as interesting as paint drying. I find it repugnant.

Watching sports is on par with following a garbage truck around all day and watching refuse workers shovel crap into a garbage truck. It’s just as athletic…and far more useful.

Went to see All That Jazz because of its Oscar best picture nomination. Two hours of my life I’ll never get back.

Never saw the appeal of Friends.

I hated All That Jazz, feel exactly the same about those two hours (except that it felt more like 4 hours). :frowning:

Yes, Friends. The Kardashians. Honey Boo Boo. Most sitcoms (though I love Big Bang).

Most reality shows (Survivor, The Voice, American Idol).

Most action movies, and horror movies.

@MaryGJ…OMG…you are my ‘don’t get the sports thing’ twin. DH will watch Super Bowl if local team is playing. And that’s about it. Football is truly the worst…11 minutes of actual play time crammed into 3 hours of commercials. Huh?

Agree about sports. Except baseball. I love baseball. Baseball takes time. It is not played against a clock. It’s played on a diamond. Hello George Carlin. Also I love Survivor. Other reality shows are stupid but Survivor is unfathomable and endlessly entertaining.

The zombie shows. Fear the Walking Dead? Why? already bored to death.

I tried to watch the first Lord of the Rings movie and fell asleep 30 minutes in. Maybe I was just really, really tired?

I liked Seinfeld when it aired but it doesn’t hold up. if I try to watch it now, not only does it not make me laugh, but I find myself hating all the characters. And not in a good way!

Maybe we are too quick to give up, but long after it got popular my husband and I tried to watch Mad Men and we were completely bored by the first episode.
