Dudedad, thanks for the link. I’d forgotten about The Mission, and On Golden Pond.

High Fidelity.

The Mission was the first time I heard Carmina Burana in a movie. Definitely not the last.

Have we mentioned any of the Godfather movies yet? Certainly iconic scores. Francis Ford Coppola’s dad co-wrote the score for Godfather II with Nino Rota and I always remember his Oscar acceptance speech because it was so sweet and funny. He said something like, “I want to thank my son because without him I wouldn’t be here. But if I wasn’t here, he wouldn’t be, either.”

It wasn’t a great movie, but I do like the last sequence of Godfather III, with music from Cavalleria Rusticana (which was also featured in a spaghetti sauce commercial! Pretty music :)).

Also no mention of Titanic!

There is some confusion here of score vs music. When I think of music, I think of the entire album, whereas score if just the primary music (generally no lyrics) at the beginning and/or ending of the movie.

nj2011mom–I would call that the “theme” music. Some movies have a great theme & the rest is not memorable nor meant to be.

One of my favorites songs from a movie is from The Empire of the Sun…a Welsh tune called Suo Gan, sung by a boy soprano. So beautiful.

The OP used the term “music”. Whether it is a composed score or pre-existing music integrated with a score, it is all still “music”. Great music scores are more than just theme music at the beginning credits and end credits (a great example would be the B. Herrmanns score during Psycho—the shower scene without it just wouldnt be the same)

^^^Exactly.

OK…this thread has over 80 posts and I’m the only one what mentioned Moontruck. I can’t be the only one that liked the music in Moonstruck.

^^^^I was surprised no one else mentioned The Sting.

If it makes you feel better, I loved the music from Moonstruck. Great movie as well.

OK…Now I do feel better…doesn’t take much. :)

Elizabethtown has a great soundtrack.

I second Moonstruck, Juno and so many others mentioned.
I know these are musicals but they are movies as well - South Pacific, Fiddler on the Roof and Sound of Music are some of my favorites.

In the Heat of the Night
2001 A Space Odyssey(sp.?)

(Music Films)
Cadillac Records
The Committments
High Lonesome
Across the Universe

Grease
Jessus Christ Superstar

…I know they anre ancient, but so am I.

Favorite scores:
Last of the Mohicans
Harry Potter
Pirates of the Carribbean

Favorite soundtracks:
hmmm… harder to choose. There are so many bad movies with good soundtracks. I will say that the last soundtracks purchased by the family were for Juno and 500 Days Of Summer, plus the first two Twilight movies.

Shaft. Memorable theme, at least.

Memorable line: Shaft is a bad mother******…

No mention of Quincy Jones:

Pawnbroker
For Love of Ivy
In the Heat of the Night
The Color Purple

^and the Austin Powers theme!

I love the opening track of* Atonement* by Dario Marianelli. The use of the circa-1935 typewriter as a percussion instrument is brilliant.
