Awesome. If I had known in advance, I would have driven over and witnessed this! (note- I owned a bright yellow Xterra. When my new CEO needed a ride, and hesitantly approached my vehicle, I started re-thinking the hula girl on the dash that seemed like such a good idea when we were on the Hawaii vacation…)

I owed y’all this one. I do wish I could edit a couple of now glaring timed-out typos but - it’ll do. That twenty minute edit feature (coupled with no spellcheck or dictionary) keeps your storytelling honest (and your words small and common) . It’s just like the SAT essay I guess, it’s just that my graders seem to be far more generous. Thank you.

garland, it ain’t stealing if you have my permission. If there is anything in there you can use, have at it. But I get a signed copy if you get published. Deal? ;)

I am laughing so hard I have tears in my eyes. Thank you so much for this thread.

ya have to do like me curmudgeon…open up a window for dictionary.com for ‘spellcheck the hard way’.

Starting my day with a giggle thanks to your move-in saga. Thanks so much! :)

Sure thing!!! Though, I don’t know if writing “from garland” on the flyleaf will count…

Great tale!! Wishing your D a year as full of adventures and funny moments as her move-in provided!

Thanks for the story, Curm. I needed that. Tomorrow is the big day for us. I already had our van checked over and I’m hoping for no surprises on the way up the mountain. Please tell us how the trip home went…we’re waiting on pins and needles.

Fifteen boxes!!! How much space does your D have in her room? I’m storing stuff for S and his 3 roommates and they don’t have 15 boxes between them.

Seriously, though, I enjoy reading the saga. It’s only a 10 minutes drive for us (half an hour on moving day with all the traffic). No stopping at a gas station. It is, as you might say, within spitting distance. :)

oh we had 15 boxes…at least…unfortunately. And we had to do a similar thing where we put the new stuff we brought from Houston in the dorm room, go to storage and sort through that stuff to determine what went to the dorm room as well, and what went back home to Houston. Mind you, we had already sorted back in May when we put the stuff in storage…but apparently that ‘sort’ was flawed. My husband was smacking his head at the whole debacle.

marite…wishing mine was ‘spitting’ distance about now…sigh! And I’m going to forever chuckle at ‘spitting’ imagery after curmudgeon’s tale of gas station revenge…lol!

Curm,
I’m with micromom. I’ll be a regular subscriber to your blog.

Curm, no one in the office believes I am working when I snort tea out of my nose, luckily missing critical electronics!

Love ya, dude, thanks for starting my Friday w a smile.

:)))))))))

Thank you curm. Your story was well worth the wait.

Hello old friend! Loved the story!

He’s b-a-a-a-aa-ck. :D

I never left, jmmom. I’m weak. I’ve given up trying. I’m just mostly a lurker nowadays . (I wear the delete button out.). Although I do have healthy age appropriate relationships with several posters by p.m… (Mostly on southern LAC’s and merit aid. Imagine that. )

Enjoyed the story! We are preparing to haul my son back to son over labor day weekend … hope our (new used) car doesn’t blow its head gasket this time.

Funniest story ever. You should definitely write a book…or maybe you could get on with the Blue Collar Comedy tour!

We just got home from the back to college drop off. Aside from some elevator problems and bad traffic there is little to tell. I do suspect there is quite a story coming from one of my D’s friends. We heard they are taking their minivan and had borrowed a cartop carrier so they would have plenty of room. In addition to all the usual stuff, they are delivering a refrigerator, TV, and stereo. I would guess they have seriously underestimated the load capacity of the Aerostar. The entire family of 5 - with 2 large boys - is going and they have planned several days for a family vacation along the way.

Oh Cur…did you read the book “Acceptance” by Susan Coll? Your story yells for a sequel called “Moving In”. “Hey Susan!! (since I’m SURE that author is a lurker or poster here…too many of the events in her book came right off this sight)…lookie…here’s your next book!” And I can see it all as a movie starring Chevy Chase.

CUR - What a GREAT and fantastic adventure you have made of move-in LOL

Can’t wait for your book to be published - will be wonderful to share the adventures with newbies - so they will know it can be done with a smile and laughter :)

GREAT JOB!! :D
