Our move was maybe a total of maybe 3 hours, 30+ years ago. The hardest part was carrying things up and down 66 flights of stairs to & from H’s parents’ home, as there were some things we wanted to have there and other things we wanted from there. Our apartment and our house are all one level. Details are lost in the mists of time.
We have been in house for 25 years and plan on staying 9 more years. Then we will move states. We will be downsizing for sure. To less than half the space we currently have. At least that is the current plan. My DW really doesn’t want to take anything from our current place. I even asked her about the nice set of knives I got her 5-7 years ago and she said nope. So I guess we will be buying all new stuff when we get there. Which is fine as most of our stuff is really old. Married 30 years and same bedroom furniture and dishes, etc. So clothes and my golf clubs will be it I guess.
Except anything from 25-30 years ago is better quality than what you’ll get today in most cases.
66 FLIGHTS of stairs or 66 STAIRS?! ![]()
One exception is stainless steel pots & pans. We GREATLY prefer our ancient 40+ year old revereware and farberware pots & pans over the “new & improved” ones, unless you’re moving to a cooktop or stove that needs new magnetic cookware. We are VERY pleased with our ancient cookware & have looked at the newer stuff that we REALLY don’t like.
We also are very fond of our ancient knives, but maybe we are dinosaurs. Haha!
I’m thinking they lived near the top of the Empire State building (86 flights)!
66 steps — carrying a toddler or infant up & down that was quite a chore, especially when the stairs were wet (as it often rained there as well). The kids and I said we wouldn’t live there and H finally agreed he wouldn’t either.
