I think it’s next to impossible to anticipate all the fees that seem to be sometimes added to the total tuition at colleges. For example, one semester, my art major D took photography, voice lessons, stage makeup through Tisch and another art class or two. I got a heads up before she registered that stage makeup had a $695 additional fee for a make up kit. But additionally besides tuition and the standard registration and fees I pay to Steinhardt above the cost of tuition, there was a $105 private voice lesson fee, a $350 photography lab fee and a $350 art studio fee.
I think the bottom line is, you always need to anticipate an extra thousand or so in unanticipated costs that you will probably not know about until you see the bill.
