MT Class of 2012- Final Decisions!

Newbie - I am so happy to see your daughter made a decision! After this LONG process, isn’t it just a wonderful feeling?

Hey guys…I am so thrilled to be reading of these students’ decisions and plans. This is the exciting moment you all have been waiting for and it is just the beginning! Welcome to the “other side” of the college admissions journey! I hope some of you will stay on and share about your experiences at these wonderful schools and programs next year.

As I shared on the acceptance forum, I have a daughter this year who went through an admissions process too but not for MT. We all share about our MT kids on here (including me who has a D going to a BFA in MT program) but I do have another daughter who is just as important to me of course. Since I have been on this forrum from the get go and have many friends here, I will share that my D also has made a final decision, but I don’t want to add her to the list because this is not for MT (nor for undergraduate school) but I will just share it since I mentioned her acceptances on the acceptance thread to share with my MT internet friends. My daughter has chosen MIT’s School of Architecture for graduate school (3.5 years) to earn a MArch I degree. Glad to be moving onto the exciting part now! (paying for it is another story but let’s keep to the fun and exciting part)

NewbieMTMom…

Great meeting you and your D yesterday! Congrats on making your final decision. Will let you know what our outcome is after next week.

WOW - havent checked in a while - congrats to all of you! Doesn’t it feel great!

CT Mom, can’t wait to hear!! :)

Soozie-- that’s incredible news about your older daughter! Holy smokes – MIT! She’s obviously one smart and talented cookie – just like her mom:).

Thanks Tiff. I do not think I could get in though. Frankly, given the odds for her program, she is shocked herself that she was successful in her admissions process at these schools particularly right out of college as the majority who will be her classmates in the program are not right out of college. As you are well aware with your own D, sometimes the odds work in their favor (with luck thrown in) and it is an amazing result.

By the way, while I will admit she is a smart cookie, getting into arch grad school is most heavily weighed on the portfolio (like BFA auditions!!) and it was hard to know how competitive she may have been in that regard. It was all so chancy. I’m glad it is over.

By the way, this particular daughter was heavily involved in many areas of the performing arts her entire life. She used to do MT too. In fact, when she was in a professional MT production at age 6, we had to cart our four year old to every rehearsal given the distance and we had to stay through the entire rehearsals. My four year old had been really into MT in preschool and the director of the professional show, after our sitting at all those rehearsals, let my four year old into the cast (this show had adult professional actors in it, including Equity). So, actually my MT child’s first musical she was in was at age 4 because her sister was in it. They went on to be in several musicals together (and many apart as well). In my MT daughter’s yearbook, we put a photo of her in costume for that professional production at age 4 and then her headshot for BFA auditions. :D

Congrats to all here, with a special shout out to soozievt’s family on the acceptance of her daughter to MIT for architecture school. Wow!! When she graduates, she can design a wonderful residence for all the MTs who crowd into New York City after college, searching for jobs. Or, a home for retired MTs and actors. Or both. (Or maybe a home for the parents who are bankrupt after paying off college for their musical theater and architecture students/kids.) ;)

NMR…when I posted her decision earlier, I had in mind to post (but forgot) that perhaps some day, she can design a performing arts venue where the talented kids on this forum perform.

Can’t wait to see your D’s decision appear on this thread sometime soon.

Please add my D’s name to the ever-growing list of final decisions:

It’s NYU/Tisch/CAP21 for her. New York, here she comes! (That song from “Thoroughly Modern Millie” keeps running through my head: “I’ve studied all the pictures/in magazines and books/I’ve memorized the subway maps, too …”)

Your d is goingto love NYU!

NMR…hallejuah! This day has come…her process is OVER…(or just beginning…depends how you look at it!). What a journey. I’ve enjoyed following it and am so thrilled for your D that she had so many wonderful college choices and also that she is landing at her dream school! And kudos to you for supporting her all the way!

As an aside…welcome to the Tisch “family”.

“New York, New York; it’s a helluva town…”

“Start spreadin’ the news,
I’m leaving today
I want to be a part of it
New York, New York!”

“I’m in a New York state of mind…”

“What is it about you
You’re big
You’re loud
You’re tough NYC
I go years without you
Then I
Can’t get
Enough”

Congratulations NMR! I have enjoyed following your journey and wish your D continued success at NYU.

Soozie, may I also extend my congratulations to you and your gifted D on her final decision to attend MIT. It must be great knowing that both of your Ds will be making their artistic marks on the world!

CA-Mom…I hope they make their artistic marks on the world but that remains to be seen. Meanwhile, they are getting good educations and I am going into debt.
Thanks for your thoughtful and supportive wishes.

NMR- Congrats to your D. on NYU!!

NMR - good to see that name on the list of acceptances. Looking forward to great reports throughout the years!

Well, if I can afford to keep the Internet connection, I am sure I will bore you all to tears with my D’s Big Adventure in New York.
