Muhlenberg Class of 2029 Official Thread

I hope you don’t mind my asking you. My S26 is looking into applying to Muhlenberg for English/Creative Writing and wants to participate in theater (but not major in it) as well. How does your daughter like the creative writing program? Did she have difficulty getting into the classes she needs/wants? How are the professors? Is there a student-run literary magazine?

Thank you!

I don’t mind at all! My D has really enjoyed the Creative Writing program and hasn’t really had any issue getting the classes that she wants. The only scheduling issue she’s had is that some of the classes meet only one day a week for a couple of hours and that can be hard to fit into her schedule around other classes.

She just finished taking a Creative Writing class this past spring that included a two week trip to Italy after the end of the semester and she really enjoyed it. Muhlenberg has a great variety of options in the program and she has enjoyed working with the faculty. She’s really looking forward to the Living Writers series this fall. They do that every three years - bring writers to campus and hold workshops and seminars with them and about their work. She also is excited about taking a class with one of their faculty who co-founded the website AO3 - 2019: Fan Fiction Site "Archive Of Our Own" Wins a Coveted Hugo Award | Muhlenberg College

The dept has an active IG account called muhlenglish which highlights their students and programs (including the Italy MILA) and their Substack page which spotlights student writing. MUSES is the literary and art magazine and it also has an IG account at muhlenbergmuses

Let me know if you have any other questions!
