I was hoping you would reply bc I figured you would know the state of the department.
CIM current has way more than 2 viola students. I think the class of 2028 did have a very small class (could have been 2?) students, but I know they have in the double digits all together.
I may have misunderstood. Maybe it was 2 students with a particular teacher? In any case, I know they have really low numbers for strings overall.
U Mass Lowell is such a great music school.
I have heard that there has been a lot of turnover in faculty at CIM and people are not happy with the current leadership.
My daughter has 2 teachers, Prep and College level who both went to CIM. Neither recommended she apply there.
That is common, especially in theory and ear training classes. My S when he went UG for a BM at a conservatory had a large amount of theory and solfege training before he started , but with solfege especially he had to in effect retake parts because they taught it differently ( he was much better with theory, because he was advanced enough he could skip past like the 2 year cycle and take more advanced stuff which he loved).
mass exodus of faculty and their students
Really a tragedy, as CIM is such an historic institution.
I think it will recover someday. I certainly hope so. Definitely an unstable situation now.
Yes- a bunch of my son’s friends left because of what was going on. He did not consider transferring there because of the current situation.
