Musical artists you can't stand!!

This is clearly in the wrong thread. I am not always good at following rules.

Some of you are really, really cranky, and really, really picky.

I don’t like Billy Joel, either, but I don’t feel any moral imperative to put him down. Except for ā€œJust The Way You Are.ā€ And ā€œCaptain Jack.ā€ Ditto all of the melismatic divas cited above. And some of the non-melismatic ones. I never liked Judy Collins much, but my wife does.

Something I really can’t stand: 10cc, ā€œI’m Not In Love.ā€

Elton John I never got. His first album is tolerable, with Tiny Dancer and Your Song, but after that, meh. Except I liked ā€œDon’t Go Breaking My Heart.ā€

Omg I agree with you on that song ā€œI’m not in love,ā€ @jhs. It’s right up there with ā€œlady in redā€ as one of my most disliked pop songs.

Tom Petty

In the ā€œyou are a creepy pedophile categoryā€ the Benny Mardones song ā€œInto the Nightā€ The first line is ā€œShe’s just 16 years old, leave her alone they sayā€, He was 34 when he released the song.

Kid Rock makes me stabby. Especially hate the song with Sheryl Crowe and ā€œAll Summer Longā€ where he rips off (I mean samples) Werewolves of London.

I’ve only read the first page, and already have a bunch to comment on:

I agree about Dave Matthews Band. I wanted to like him, but could never get past his voice. Speaking of voices that are hard to get past, Bob Dylan. I’ve tried to get into his music, because so many musicians I like cite him as an influence, but I just don’t like most of it. Plus he comes off as an arrogant ass in a lot of the interviews I’ve seen. I realized something about him, though. He’s never rude to females who interview him, only men.

I also heard a tape of him and John Lennon drunk or high or something, and John Lennon is the one who sounds like an arrogant ass. Dylan sounds like a nice guy. Maybe the arrogant act is something he puts on for the interviews.

I like Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, and Jimmy Buffet. I don’t run out and buy Celine Dion’s album’s, but I like her music. Absolutely hate most country, to the point that it’s torture if I’m stuck somewhere and that’s all that’s playing. Sorry. I know people love it, but I just don’t get. It’s like reality TV - I have to leave the room

Another entrant in the creepiest-song-ever category is Rod Stewart’s Tonight’s the Night.

She must have seen the play Mamma Mia, and you didn’t, or you’re immune. I wasn’t
I’ve got it all on my iPod. Embarrassing, but true

I actually quit a once-a-week volunteer gig because the people who ran it (a resale shop that benefits rescue animals) only listened to country music. After a few months, I couldn’t take it any longer… even if only for four hours once a week.

That’s funny. I like that one. The one of his that I can’t stand is ā€œOld Time Rock and Rollā€. And that’s the one that’s on all of the Karaoke machines. I like ā€œAgainst The Windā€ and ā€œFire Lakeā€, but the rest is just OK.

@cellomom2 While Hotel California is by The Eagles, Horse With No Name is not. It’s by America.

I’m with you on this buddy. She’s the problem  I know a good divorce attorney

Wow! Really? None of it? Not the early stuff, the late stuff, the psychedelic stuff? Sorry, you’re entitled to your own tastes. I’ve just never heard anyone say that.

I agree @mathmom. I don’t play him all the time, but I love Jimmy Buffet. I didn’t realize how many people hate him. ā€œHe went to Parisā€, ā€œPencil thin moustacheā€, and ā€œCome Mondayā€ are three of my favorites. I don’t know the others. I’ll have to check them out.

Station is changed immediately when REO Speedwagon comes on.

Creepy song: Heart’s ā€œAll I Want To Do Is Make Love To Youā€

Also really dislike Al Stewart’s ā€œYear of the Catā€ and George Thorogood’s ā€œBad to the Bone,ā€ although I am always delighted to catch, ā€œOne Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beerā€ as it kills nearly 10 minutes of drive time.

I like Mickey! Great running song. I also liked I’m Not in Love. Maybe I don’t have any taste!

Give the kids some credit; my grandparents have a few of those lying around.

I literally laughed out loud at this. I don’t think I would have lasted there either

My brother-in-law plays country on his TV when we’re there sometimes, and he lives in a small condo, so there’s nowhere to escape to. It’s torture. And he loves it. He was horrified that I didn’t know some guy who’s supposed to be a big guy in country.

There’s other music that I don’t particularly love, like most pop music, but I can tolerate it, and even get into a little bit if it’s catchy. But country music does absolutely nothing for me.

I once saw a really creepy guy sing ā€œStroke Itā€ – complete with hand gestures – at a karaoke bar. I’d add that to the creepy song list – but I may have been unduly influenced by that particular performance.

@MommaJ : ā€œā€¦de gustibus non est disputandum.ā€

Very well said.
