Wow! thanks for all this discussion! I will definitely suggest Coastal as baseball is her favorite sport - Thanks Alexa! And thanks nydancemom and keeping calm for the tips on Elon and CCM!

I totally agree about time restraints of a BFA program in regards to being able to actually attend games. She may be able to attend some freshman year, but after that who knows!

As mtpaper said - I think it’s more about being involved in the spirit of the school than actually attending the games for her. This is the case with both my kids who are in the BFA acting program at USC. They do manage a few football games in the Fall but that’s about it. And adding to my son trying to fit in attending football games, he decided to rush and is now frat pledge — but that is a whole other discussion :)

As SoozieVT and AngieA discussed it is not just the case at BFA programs… students in BM programs (MT, VP, etc…), and… depending on the school… BA programs that are professional training focused (as opposed to the more tradition BA model where approximately 30% of your course work is in your major) will all have similar “issues” in terms of fitting in extra-curriculars like games, clubs, greek life, etc…

As I suggested above… ask the students at the schools directly. They will generally be honest about their experiences :).

^^Well, actually, many theater programs teach stage combat!!

And many schools have fencing teams too. I am advising a student currently who is seeking a BFA and she also does fencing (not sure she’ll do that in college though).

An increasing number of schools have quidditch teams these days… :)

(My son fenced, until theatre started consuming so much of his time that he couldn’t keep up with the amount of training required to maintain his fencing skills. Now he fences a little bit, informally, at his college’s fencing club, when he can fit it in.)
