<p>Are universities supposed to be places where everyone agrees? I certainly hope not. Can Hashemi learn from the principles of liberal democracy that an American university can teach? I certainly hope so. Is Yale’s decision the rest of the world’s business? ABSOLUTELY not. Private universities exist to be provocative. They exist precisely to do what the public realm, whose decisions are made based on outward appearance and not on fact, cannot do. They exist to be bastions of development of understanding and learning. Gibson shows no comprehension of the actual situation and obviously is lacking in his homework. Yale and Yalies don’t mind Hashemi; what right do those who have no idea what they are talking about and have no conncetion to Yale have to butt in?</p>
