My 1st Experience Using airbnb .....

The squatters are out, they have squatted before (and say they will again) and also didn’t deliver on a kickstarter:

Oh, and they’ve been banned by airbnb although they’ll likely try to scam their way in again.

Wow, everyone needs to open the link in #60. Thanks for that link! What a bunch of clowns!!! Thank goodness their pics are posted. I can’t believe they go from scam to scam and joke about it!!! I got to tell you, there is way to deal with these two clowns, but it probably isn’t legal. It’s a little Old School but it would fix them quick.

Tschogl is being forced to go through the full legal eviction process due to a California law by which people who rent for 30 days can sometimes be considered month-to-month tenants.

VRBO and AirBnB need to do a better job reminding Owners not to accept rentals that are 29+ days, or if they do, they could be subject to this problem.

I think Florida Owners have some protections from longer short-term rentals…maybe because many snowbirds rent for 60-90 days in the winter.

Clowns? Is it just me, or do they really do look like a pair of androids?

^^^ You’re right!

And, why is what they did, not considered theft?

Someone has to go through the exercise of suing these scammers!

When a bunch of techies who probably never owned a piece of real estate or dealt with tenants themselves start a company, they soon discover that they need to pay attention to the applicable laws and regulations… I agree, it would not be too hard to program into the system a reminder for the landlord that pops up every time when someone requests a rental that would make it a long-term rental.

My kid got a long term rental for her internship. But I noticed some places you can’t do more than 10 days. So I think owners can set it however they want. After reading this I’m praying that my kid didn’t get a dog house.

Apparently many people in my area are attempting to rent their homes for the U.S. Women’s Open. The house directly across the street from the golf course has their house listed for $1,000 a night, six night minimum. Pictures show a cluttered kitchen, but no pictures of bedrooms and baths. No wireless internet. I don’t care how close they are, I would never pay that price to not have wireless internet.

Most of the other homes are being offered at $500 a night (with wireless), but none of the hosts have any experience/reviews.

I would be so hesitant to rent in that situation.

Cluttered kitchen! Ugh. the picture shot of the kitchen must look clean and neat. no pics of bedrooms and baths? That is scary! People want to see what they’re getting into.

Wireless internet has become a given! What does the home family use? cat5 cable with a desktop only?

Travelers come with laptops and tablets…they need wireless and places to recharge. and, they’re going to be using their electronics anywhere and everywhere…outside, in bed, on the couch, etc.

Yes. Obviously they are hoping to catch someone who needs accommodations at the last minute when everything else is booked. But I think I would add a commute just to be able to have wireless.

I get the sense that the owners of the private homes listed for this special event got into a discussion at their annual block party, went home and got out their camera, took a few obligatory pictures, set up an airbnb account, and then listed their house. None of the listings look professional.

I agree, but some phone plans have generous dataplans and phones can be hotspots. it wouldn’t be the end of the world if I had to be somewhere for a week w/o provided wifi. My phone and iPad can be a hotspot (30GB dataplan), and my iPad has WiFi+Cellular…so as long as not one is doing any big-time video streaming…everyone can be wireless.

Andrew Bender is a friend of a friend and I follow his travel writings. This piece is interesting and reiterates much of what’s been discussed on this thread:
