I don’t know what NYU does but there is no doubt today colleges are attracting wealthy students with amenities.
But HPU I think is on a level all its own and they are not shying away from it.
And if it works for them, why would they ?

Interesting you ask what other colleges offer multiple tier housing… Many colleges do it they just don’t call it that - Elon does it, Yale does it, UNC does it, and so on and so on.
I also noticed schools referenced above do not guarantee housing all 4 years where HPU does. So when a 3rd or 4th year student doesn’t have on campus housing tier level dorms aren’t as big of a deal as they are made. Also, anytime I drive up 85, or through 77 signs exists. Interesting enough, I am from Savannah and we have a multitude of universities, but certain South Carolina colleges have billboards all over Savannah near those universities. .
I think the tough thing for colleges in the area is that HPU has such new facilities while others are landlocked and can only upgrade what is there. That alone can foster some jealousy due to the inability to compete in that way as the older buildings even if offering tiers can compete.
Having said all of that I think when looking at schools look at the overall flavor of what you get. My daughters choose the honors program so we’re in the lower tier housing. However they loved the friends they made and what they learned.
I work with companies and one of the difficulties companies are having is some new hires are missing the well rounded view they want new employees to have. So I like the life skill programs that HPU has all kids take so they develop a more community and philanthropy view point.
Overall my main point is HPU does over all the tiers and your child can have a great educational experience whether they are in the top tier or the lower tier.
No, definitely that is not the feeling. I’m in NC, my kid is in college. She has friends who spent time at HPU in the summer doing non-HPU summer programs (NC Governors School) but would never want to attend there. It certainly has a niche audience but I don’t think it’s accurate at all to imply the other colleges or students at other colleges are jealous. It’s a school that is definitely not for everyone no matter how much bling they throw at it.
A reminder that the OP was interested in knowing how people would rank all those colleges. The focus on this thread should be about how these colleges rank and why, and not become solely dedicated to HPU’s dorms and billboards.
There is already a thread singing the praises of HPU. Feel free to continue that discussion there: High Point University- Check it out - #97 by Debeach

A lot depends on what is your child like, what major do they want, and what activities do they want to be involved in as each school has a very different flavor. Would you share a bit more about your child’s interests?
I agree with you that most schools have several tiers for students to choose from based on income levels. I think, since HPU has so many new buildings in the last 10 years compared to other colleges, it often gets singled out for the “rich” atmosphere. While in realty it is just a lot of new and that is attracting people.
Having said all that, I think you have to match a school academically for you child- not only in coursework but also in number of students to professor ratio, look at majors your child wants, and then look at the other activities the school offers to well round your child out.
I did have two go to HPU and one go to St John’s University in Minnesota. All three got good educations and all three got employed. St Johns fit my son’s desire for a smaller school close to home. And for my girls HPU fit their desires with opportunities, and degrees.
In terms of cost- we paid the same for HPU as we did for St Johns University even though St Johns was way behind in terms of dorms, choices, and classrooms- most were stuck in the 70’s in looks and feel. So those who think it “costs more due to the newness” we didn’t find that to be true. What we did find is we got more for our money there.
But the key thing is all of my children made great friends, got a good education, and got jobs that fit them. So go a lot on your own child and if the “people” on campus feel like her people.
Snarky, funny. But also high point has better amenities, cleaner campus, and frankly the two are very comparable in terms of acceptance rate. Respectability wise your degree from Elon will not get you any sort of significant gap in terms of ability to gain employment/salary. Elon is jealous because high point pretty much gaps it in terms of most things (amenities, pure beauty, etc) but what they can hold on to is the slightly better reputation in terms of academics that leads to very minute differences in terms of employment and salary. It’s a personal choice I guess, high point is also on the come up… while Elon remains stagnant.
Sure, I can’t discount your personal anecdote but what I can point out is that many people begin to deny when they’re jealous. What’s objective is the newness and luxurious nature of the campus makes it more desirable than whichever other campus in NC.
You’re saying that kids at Duke, Wake and UNC Chapel Hill are all jealous and wish they went to High Point?
I might be jealous, actually. I’ve been to UNC (ehhh), Duke (nice) and Wake (daughter didn’t like).
We did a self tour at High Point - and she thought it was really really nice - but not college - more like - a town cut from the Stepford Wives
I know what you’re getting at - I’m just being facetious. But it is a very nice school.
If you scroll down to the images and open up - I’m ready to sell my house and move in!!!

Jealous? That’s such a strange thing to say. I’m sure the kids at Elon and the others are too busy living their lives to be thinking about how much better the housing is at High Point. Nice buildings isn’t the only important thing about a university.
My Elon kid told me her insta feed is flooded with HP advertisements. She thought that was fascinating and wondered how they targeted her. She also noticed all of the “Visit High Point” signs on the highway and laughed that they must be targeting similar students. That said, she agreed the HP was beautiful from the pictures (we did not visit), although Elon is really nice as well. She was admittedly jealous of the pool.
It sure is !!
