Now why would you want to open a savings account with a bank you already said you didn’t like the practices of? There’s nothing that special about BofA. You should at least check around other banks or better yet, credit unions, understand their fee practices, and pick one that has the services and fee structure you like best. Of course the fee structures keep changing so one needs to try to keep up with that aspect.

^^ The “special” thing about B of A is the convenience of their network of ATMs. That doesn’t mean we thought the service was any good. It just means that, until now, it wasn’t bad enough to make changing banks worth the hassle.

^^ The credit union I use is a member of an ATM network (Co-op) that has over 28,000 locations and are free to use. Certainly BofA, Wells Fargo, Chase, Citi, and the like have more actual branches across a much greater geography than a CU but ATMs themselves aren’t really a problem due to being able to use the free network of them with the CU.

How many of you who are complaining about bank fees are willing to admit that you also pay $55 per year to Costco for the mere pleasure of walking into their stores?

^^ Maybe that’s why people need to save money on the bank fees - to pay costco for the privilege of shopping there. OTOH I get paid about $500/yr to use the Costco AmEx credit card.

Right, so is mine, but I didn’t know this until last month. That’s what made leaving B of A for the credit union a viable option. :)
