My grades suck too...Do I have a chance?

I am a rising junior.

GPA:Between 3.0 and 3.4UWHighest Possible

Classes:All Honors or AP classes my school offers

SAT:IDK, But I had the highest CR in my school on the PSATs and was in the top 10 on Math and Writing…I am in 2 SAT prep classes…Lets say I get a 2100 for estimation.

Rank:Top 25%

ECs: Lead Member of Award Winning Marching,Concert, and Jazz Bands
Head Attorney in Mock Trial
Selected in John Hopkins Talent Search
Member of Mensa(Waste of $50 IMO)
1st and 3rd medals in junior division of Rhode Island science and engineering fair(Was in Middle School, but competed with High Schools)
100 hours of community service
Have taken 3 classes at Community College, GPA is 3.7
I am applying for RSI next year.

I plan to major in either CompSci,International Relations/Politics, Physics(for Ph.D in Astrophysics), or some type of Engineering(Aerospace,Electrical,Biotech)

I would love technology/engineering and business program too. But that isn’t needed.(I think Co-ops can help with that)

Thanks guys…I really want to go to college in Boston and I think Northeasterns Co-Op and study abroad programs look great.

Seems I saw some students with lesser stats get in.
Good luck to you

My advice would be to really focus on this years grades and the SAT. I know it sounds stupid, but don’t settle for Bs. Straight Bs might not be that bad, but if you are really serious about getting the GPA up then don’t slack off.

Trust me, I slacked off a lot junior and senior year, and my GPA went from 4.9 W to 4.5 W. That sounds okay, except it cost me my reach schools.

What can I do to maximized my chances?
I REALLY want to go to college in Boston and I like NEU co-op program.

Does NEU weigh down Freshmen grades?
Do they average in non academic Electives(Band)?

just do well on your SAT. I had a low gpa: 2.8uw and 3.2/3w, little extra curriculars/community service and was accepted with a 12k scholarship most likely because of my SAT: 2040

I don’t really need a 12k scholarship(never hurts) and i should be able to get my SATs up there,

That is encouraging, but what else did you do?
Did you have a hook?

Also should I apply EA for my best chance?
Is it binding?

its always good to apply EA if u really like the school… EA is not binding ED is binding pending financial aid

i guess my hook is teaching tennis at a YMCA for 4 years, and to my surprise Northeastern started out as a YMCA, and I also applied EA, I definitely encourage you do so because there really is no reason not to.

I liked applying EA, because when I found out I got in, I didn’t stress as much about my other schools months later because at least I had somewhere to go.

Also it is true in some of the dorms if you look out the windows, you might get a glimpse of the Red Sox games?

I’ve heard you can HEAR Fenway from all the rooms in Kerr hall I have no Idea about seeing them

If you’re on the top floor of Kerr or Melvin and facing the right direction, you might be able to see Fenway, but I don’t think you could actually see into the park. I know some of the upper-classmen dorms, such as West Village A or H, are high enough that you have a great view of the skyline and Fenway.

Unfortunately, it’s more likely you’ll have a view of a wall.

Yeah, during the tour they always like to point out that one of the upperclassmen dorms can watch Red Sox games. However, it is the 21+ dorm. I heard that the two new West Village buildings under construction may be able to, but I have no idea if that’s true.

What do you say my chances are if I apply EA with say the stats below?

Also for co-op…Could I do my co-op at JPL at Cal-Tech?
Link: https://careerlaunch.jpl.nasa.gov/program_coop.html</a>
Or what about MIT’s labs?

Also how is NEUs grad school acceptance?
Are the co-op very attractive to top grad-schools like MIT,Caltech,Harvard,JHU,UCal…etc.?

I like NEU from what I see, I am asking this because NEU doesn’t really do research,.

I plan to visit because I am not familiar with the area…I have only visited Harvard and MIT, and really loved both areas…MITs tunnel was the ****(Longest tunnel except the Pentagon) and Harvard Square was really nice.
