My parent lives in China. Do I fill out the Noncustodial Parent Waiver Form?

<p>So Stanford replied to my message about the waiver and said:

We are currently updating files and the Noncustodial Parent Wavier Form is one of those forms. In the case that we are unable to get the updated form up on our website for you, please write a statement describing your family situation when sending in your Financial Aid documents.

<p>This didn’t answer my question so I asked them the same thing rephrased and they replied:

You may fill out the Noncustodial Parent Waiver Form instead of having your noncustodial parent fill out the Noncustodial Profile form.

<p>… so they’re saying I should fill out the Noncustodial Parent Waiver Form instead of the PROFILE form.</p>

<p>MIT was different (more helpful):

Do you still have contact with your noncustodial parent? If so, then you must provide information for them. If not, you may complete the noncustodial parent waiver form, which I’ve attached to this email.

<p>Thus, like what happymomof1 and annoyingdad suggested, I will fill out the CSS Profile. </p>

<p>I replied to MIT with:

Yes, I do have contact with him, so I’ll fill out the CSS/Financial PROFILE then. If he doesn’t file taxes, how do I provide the financial information? Also, I’m just wondering, how do you define “separated” parents? If my parents are legally married but live separately and my noncustodial parent doesn’t contribute to my household, then would my parents be considered “separated?”

He would have to forward a wage statement letter to you, signed by his employer. You need only submit 2013 financial information at this point. Yes, that is exactly how “separated” is defined.

<p>So basically because I still have contact with my dad, I should still include him in my CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE forms and not opt for the waiver instead. </p>
