Hi! Are the classes at UCLA really impacted? I was just wondering how stressful the enrollment process is. I also don’t want to stay at UCLA for too long only because I couldn’t get the classes I needed.

And if you know anything about their Sociology program, that would be helpful too. Thanks!

I’m an art history major/transfer student and interested in going to UCLA.

I’m wondering about campus size/getting around campus, class/workload difficulty, nightlife/life outside of campus, if teachers/counselors are helpful, housing, and if meeting people will be an issue. I’m also looking into studying abroad Fall 2012.

I’m a little nervous about being left in the dust at UCLA. I’m a smart girl but I’m just very intimidated by it.

Hello! Suma_Ramga do you know anything about Prof. Sprouse? He’s teaching Math 115a during summer. I plan on taking Econ 11 (Sproul) and Math 115a (Sprouse) and I’m wondering if this a schedule that would allow me to have enough time to study for A’s and relax a bit during the weekends.

Wow I’m impressed. Your GPA at UCLA is about the same from your GPA at the CC. What are the curves like at UCLA? I see alot of people here that aren’t too happy with the curves at Cal but I have yet to see anything about the curves in UCLA. I was admitted to both Cal and UCLA, and to some extent, it is one of the deciding factors. The curves are important especially if I plan to go to grad school…

I am contemplating on switching from Cal for econ to UCLA math/econ, do you know average graduating GPA for math majors or math/econ (@Cal its a 2.8)?
I wanted to double major in math/econ but it’s looking like my gpa won’t survive it at Cal, at UCLA is this major a good substitute for a double?
Did you have to fight curves often to get A’s or not so much(most math/stats class here offer only 20% A’s, and give midterms that most of the class fail to rationalize said curve)?

hey, I will be a new bruin this fall. my major is aerospace engineering. here are the questions Id like to ask:)

How is the grading there? for example, do they curve from the median or top? I am really worried about failing classes there as Ive heard some horror stories from students who transfered to ucla engineering.

How did you maintain such a great gpa? That is just awesome. Did you have time for social life? also, how many units per quarter did you take? I am planning to take 12 units this fall, which is the minimum requirement to stay eligible for FA.

supa_ragma, thank you for making this thread! i am admitted as a transfer student to the pre biz-econ major and i want to go to ucla soooo bad but im scared that i might not do good in the pre-reqs at ucla to get into the actual bizecon major. how hard do you think it is to actually get into the major? thanks! :)

Hello, I’m going to be an Economics transfer at Berkeley… class of '13(hopefully with a minor in Mathematics)… How did you land a Management Consulting gig? Did you face any troubles being a transfer(in regards to landing a Management Consulting job)? What internships did you have? Which firm are you working for… is it big three? That’s my target career, so any help/answers would be much appreciated… Thanks!

I haven’t been on CC for a long time now. After a talk with a friend of mine about applying to UCLA, I had the urge to mosey on over here again.

A new admissions cycle leads to new questions. I’d be happy to answer what I can. However, I would greatly appreciate if people read over what’s been posted already. I imagine that two pages is not too much to ask of you capable aspiring Bruins ;)

Can i switch our major when i was a junior student? someone told it is impossible to change your major at ucla and ucb when you are the junior。。。。

Hey, thanks for coming back to the forums. If you recall, I posted in this topic earlier and decided to switch to math/econ. I will be applying this november and hope to have the same success as you.

So, how is your life now after graduating from UCLA? Has math/econ prepared you well for the current work you’re doing? Would you describe your work as fulfilling/challenging? Is there anything you would change about what you’ve done, as in taking particular courses that would have helped you on the job more, things like that? Does your job involve any programming and if so, what language is most commonly used?

Also, do you recommend any math textbook for reviewing important concepts before transfering to UCLA and taking real analysis and upper division linear algebra? I’ve done well in all my math classes but I’m still afraid that I won’t be prepared enough.
