I’ve never understood why people love Citizen Kane so much. I do like *The Third Man *though. The American Film Institute lists it as their number one: http://www.afi.com/tvevents/100years/movies.aspx

I quite liked Motorcycle Diaries.

Watched Draughtsman’s Contract again last night. Superb. Loved the swithc between the black and white costumes and the chattering muses–and the naked muses inthe garden. What a great film–surprising that Greenaway didn’t achieve larger status with that level of talent although he does go around announcing his cleverness which wouldn’t endear him tot he British. OTOH, Merchant and Ivory seem shallow by comparison.

Also rented Hidden Fortress for this rainy weekend…

Just watched Mr. Holland’s Opus again. Haven’t seen it since it was released many moons ago. I still cry at the ending.

Ah, how could I forget: Office Space!

Basically captures how my entire family looks at life.

That’s a fave of my sons, g. They’ve watched Office Space I don’t know how many times.

This is a fun thread! I like the things you and WashDad like.

And I really enjoyed Clueless too. I loved it the first time I saw it, but didn’t catch all the Emma parallels untill the second time through. And Defending your Life was wonderful also. We just watched The Lives of Others last night. That will stay with me.

bethievt, I’m glad you like the thread. It’s crunch time for some families, but even on CC, it’s good to have some diversions. I have been told by quite a few people to go see The Lives of Others. I haven’t had a chance. Maybe, if I take some time off CC, I can go see it. :)

The Graduate
Wild Bunch
Women in Love
Life is beautiful
Walkabout
Play It Again Sam
Wages of Fear
The Enemy Below
The Full Monty
Paths of Glory
to name a few…McCabe and Mrs. Miller, the Bicyle Thief, Seven Beauties, Jules and Jim, and the Godfather, have to be in there too.

Didn’t love Hidden Fortress. Not enough eye candy for me–but I could see hints of later Kurasawa effects.

I did think of two more…The Last Emperor and Stealing Beauty by Bernado Bertolucci. Liv Tyler in * Stealing Beauty* is one of the most beautiful creatures on God’s earth.

I’m a *Clueless * fan too–and 10 Things I hate About You.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Lord of the Rings (I count the three as one movie)
Mary Poppins (I liked it when it came out – when I was 8 years old – and I still do)
American Graffiti
West Side Story
The Godfather (the first one only)
To Kill a Mockingbird
Troy (I’m so glad you mentioned it too, coolweather. Sometimes I think I’m the only person on the planet who liked this movie.)
Becket (Peter O’Toole and Richard Burton in the Middle Ages)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (but not its sequels)

dstark

the only time you’ll leave cc is if your child is hogging the computer. I hate to think what will happen when mine goes to college. Let’s all go to the movies together!!

I forgot that I must also mention the following
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Streets of Fire
Billy Jack
Cool Hand Luke
Clue
Lawerence of Arabia
I love these hope you all like them too

This thread has tempted me to make my first cc post. I have benefited from the college knowledge posted by many thoughtful and humorous cc members. Thank you all.

Now that you’ve posted you are ONE OF US! I suppose theoretically you could leave and never come back, but I’m pretty sure you’ll want to stay.

I wanted to rent Gaslight and the local Blockbuster didn’t have it in stock. Very annoying.

I was talking about movies at a dinner last week (what a surprise) and three different people said Gaslight was in their top ten.
