Narrow shoes for older women--80+ years old

My niece is graduating in podiatry, so she will likely meet a lot of folks with foot problems and perhaps take on helping us keep grandma comfortably and appropriately shod. :)

LOL I actually wrote to SAS Shoes years ago to complain that their shoes were old lady looking and not attractive. I received a nice letter back explaining that due to the foot bed they could not make a more youthful style. About 10 years late the parents/owners died and the younger owner have, indeed, improved the styles. I have not bought any but do think they have done a good job trying to change their image.

I personally did NOT like the SAS styles a few years back but DO like the current styles and H & I each have one or more pairs. We also ordered a pair of walking shoes in that brand for my mom and hope it will meet her approval. They DO tend to have comfortable shoes. Easy Spirit also has comfortable shoes. I am looking for comfort for mom, as well as stability so she can walk easily on uneven surfaces (including grass, gravel, and broken asphalt and sidewalks).

That is good to hear (that SAS has improved the look of their shoes.).

When I saw the SAS suggestion, I thought, “Goodness, no. Those things are awful looking”. Like others, I hopped on the website and was pleasantly surprised by the new styles.

There is a “sale” today (if you can call it that), and for the next 2 days on Ferragamo’s on Rue La La

Well, we are happy, she’s wearing the lace ups shoes and sandals with adjustable straps we bought her! She has been wearing oversizes shoes for so long, she says these shoes “feel odd,” because her feet can feel the sides and top of the shoes instead of a lot of empty space in the shoes. We are hoping having her wear shoes that fit will improve her gait and balance.

Check out marmishoes.com for narrow shoes. I saw someone else had mentioned them in this thread but I really do love the shoes I have bought from them. Having large narrow feet is unbelievably frustrating when it comes to shopping for shoes.

I recently bought the Clark Coda from Zappos. I have narrow feet, usually 10 AA. I ended up with a 9.5 B because the AA was too narrow! I love Zappos because I could order 6 pairs of the same shoes in different sizes and widths with free shipping and free return. I use an adhesive heel gripper for my D who has a 10-11 AAA foot.

I passed the Ferragamo store yesterday. They are having a sale. My mother was a C width and she wore Ferragamos. I had a high instep…and I wore Ferragamos as well. Now…I can only wear a few brands because I have plantar whatever the second word it…so Cole Haan, Banana Republic, Aerosols, and Chanel…I donated50 pairs of shoes. Rule one: If I scream in pain as I put my shoes on…they are gone.

My mother-in-law (late 80s) loves Clarks.
