National handbag day

@HouseChatte and @my-3-sons -sons, I’m glad you said it first ( matching bag and shoe color) because I always feel that people will be staring at me if I walk out of the house in navy shoes and a black handbag! I must admit to not following through on the matching, however. Too much trouble for the rare occasions when I wear the navy shoes! My compromise is @HImom’s solution - I generally wear black shoes and carry black bags.

I’m carrying a largish Michael Kors handbag with crossover strap in navy blue leather. Despite the leather, I think of it as a spring/summer bag because of the color. It does kind of bug me because I have but one pair of navy shoes that I rarely wear, so it’s been mostly camel flats.

It’s going to get swapped out for something more fall/winter before the end of the week. Probably back to the purple Longchamp tote with the more than a wallet, less than a purse from coach.

Right now I’m at the gym where I carry a cotton kikoy fabric bag I bought in Kenya.
Otherwise I’m using a cognac colored leather Frye bag. I use it with the cross body strap. It came also with a beautiful braided leather hand strap but I prefer to wear my bags crossbody. This bag had a side slanted zippered pocket on the outside that fits my car keys perfectly.
I have several nice bags but I’m one who carries one bag for several months and if I switch carry that bag for several months. I tend to lean towards black, tan, cognac or brown bags.
I am one who also switches my glasses for sun glasses when I go outdoors so need room in my bag for the sunglass case. Which makes me not a good candidate for the cute small crossbody bags or wallet on chain.

I’m switching to lord knows what in the next couple days. I’m currently carrying a cross body purse that is cream with rose flowers? I never remember names but it caught my eye at kohls and was on sale in May. Now I’ll carry a black or teal cross body for fall.

I am a walking handbag embarrassment. I have to use a crossbody bag because I need hands free when I am shopping or loading, which is a lot of time in my job. The crossbody is crammed with a lot of stuff.

Used to have a Fossil leather messenger size bag but it got beat up and was very heavy. A friend gave me a purple nylon medium size cross over with lots of zippered outside pockets which I need to stuff receipts into all day.

I hated the purple nylon but it, unfortunately, has become my daily bag. I’m not good at all with changing bags for different occasions except maybe an evening bag. Definitely don’t have matching purple shoes:)

But the embarrassing thing is the bag is so disgustingly dirty with water marks, drywall dust, you name it. This thread has finally got me motivated to go out and get something new.

Definitely not a candidate for National Handbag Day!

Michael Kor’s Kempton. I have a large tote and a medium tote. They come in a variety of colors and have lots of zippered pockets.
The larger one is steel grey and the smaller one in teal green.

I just bought a Michael Kors - messenger I think. It’s smallish. Bought it at lunch today, so I guess I’m celebrating national handbag day?!

I almost bought an adorable tote today, too! The day is still young.

Run wild. Sounds like my motto!

I’m currently sporting a vintage gucci navy blue leather tote bag that I can store lots of stuff . I will switch to a suede hobo soon.

I’m currently using a taupe Bottega Veneta parachute bag. My favorite bag - just the right size, gorgeous and no logos. I have it in dark brown and black – will switch to the brown once the temps go down and I’m wearing heavier clothing.

I’ve been looking for a small to medium sized dark navy clutch to use as a casual evening bag. There’s very little available in navy.

Right now (because it still feels like summer) I’m using a blush Kate Spade bag too but will soon switch to a Banana Republic burgundy one. I like the open design (kind of a poor girl’s Birkin if you will) vs the zip top of the Kate Spade one.

I use, and have used for years, a Longchamp Pliage large tote. Right now I’m using one in the color bilberry purple. I also have the exact same thing in deep red. My only complaint about them is that there aren’t any pockets/organizers inside, but I’ve overcome that problem by buying a drop-in organizer from China.

When I get dressed up, I use something much more tailored or sparkly, depending on the event.

I have a big Longchamp tote in the black and white horsey print - the one with the horizontal zipper around the middle that makes it expand - I bought it years ago in London. When I travel, I put my regular handbag inside, along with whatever else I want to carryon - it holds a ton (full capacity is around 20 lbs) and it protects everything. It’s the most durable bag I own - it still looks perfect after years and years.

I’m still using a small X body Ralph Lauren fringed bag. I put aside my Kat Spade when I hurt my shoulder and had elbow surgery. It can fit the essential, tho not sunglasses, and is light. No big Lagos, softest leather, and stylish. Still looks new.

I do use a small beaded black bag for dressy affairs. That is the only time I change bags

@Gourmetmom - I have a chocolate brown Longchamp bag just like that, and it is my trusted travel bag. Yup, the other bag goes inside. The Longchamps are perfect for travel - they do not add any weight to the carryon!

Prada muddy green bowling bag is my latest go to bag (patent leather, so it is shining). It goes with everything.

I have an "old"ish plain black Coach bag, plus the Longchamp extendable bag I got at Nordstrom sale, that I’ve been carrying to work lately.
This week we’ve been hiking in Santa Fe, and I’ve been using the same bright blue Northface backpack I’ve used since I went to grad school in 1991. I don’t think Northface was even a “thing” back then, but this bag has been great. I was just telling my husband I will miss it when it’s no longer functional. It’s been everywhere with me for a long time.

Using my vera bradley crossbody in the pink/black elephant breast cancer pattern. I used to use very small bags but having to carry my cell, my reading glasses, and my sunglasses put an end to that.

Today? Took my Longchamps tote. And inside was a little Stone Mountain purse…just big enough to hold my mywalit wallet…which cost more than the Longchamps bag!

Those of you who have the Longchamp tote with horizontal zipper, does it fit under-the-seat-in-front-of-you when expanded?
