No, they just changed it literally this year, because of a significant shortage of funds.

This way they aren’t under any guarantee to give kids $$$ just because they did well on a single standardized test.

Prior to this admissions cycle, National Merit, Hispanic, and Achievement was all $3000 a year for in-state, or in-state tuition + $1000 a year for out of state. You could only receive a single scholarship, even if you received multiple National Merit recognition programs. TX residents who were National Merit Semifinalists received a bonus $1000 for freshman year only.

However. due to dwindling funding from the Legislature and a significant hit to UT’s endowment during the financial crisis (and thus to the interest that they earn, which is what they pay to operate the school with and give scholarships with), as well as lower donations (fewer total donations and those they’ve received are lower than normal), they’ve cut the guaranteed money.

Pretty much sucks for the Class of 2013 and beyond, but hopefully things will pick up and they’ll be able to offer a set sum again.
